    CAKE compared to OpenWrt version?

I switched from an AC68u to a router running OpenWrt years ago because it did not support CAKE. I see the newer AX Asus routers are running a newer kernel version with native support. Is this as good as the one in OpenWrt now? Anyone have experiences comparing them?

    MerlinWRT - compile instructions?

Thanks to @RMerlin and @john9527 for the helpful tips. I successfully compiled the RT-AC68U image from trunk in my Docker image. It was easier than I thought and it's pretty straightforward. Hardly a mess. Here's the Dockerfile I used. I only set it up and tested it for non HND but it should...

    Asus QoS rework?

Get an Edgerouter and put the Asus in AP mode. I know that’s not what you want to hear but it’s the simplest and cheapest solution. The X can be found for less than $40 on sale sometimes and will handle 41Mbps without problems. You’ll get 20ms ping while being fully saturated in both directions.

Ubiquiti Users -- questions for you

All those things are done on the Edgerouter and is probably easier using CLI. I recommend doing a Google search with Edgerouter in your search and you should find posts about how it’s done. Unfortunately there’s no documentation available for EdgeOS that Ubiquiti maintains. I changed my DNS...

    MerlinWRT - compile instructions?

I've been playing around with this and Docker has been an amazing tool for quickly iterating and trying things out. Since each layer of the docker image is cached I can make changes and try them quickly without having to reinstall packages or checkout the repo over and over again. @RMerlin...

    MerlinWRT - compile instructions?

I think there are a few challenges with the approach of distributing a VM image. There's just no good way to version control or distribute. Instead of downloading a <1MB text file everyone has to download the full image which is hundreds of MBs. Even minor updates to the VM image will require...

    MerlinWRT - compile instructions?

If you’re going to tackle this it’s better to spend efforts to build using docker instead of trying to update the wiki. It will be much simpler for everyone to have repeatable builds that just work. It’s not worth it for RMerlin to work on since he’s pretty much developing solo.

    RT-AC86u or WRT3200ACM

I got the impression that the Marvell based WiFi routers weren’t very good. Lots of instability and empty promises to the open source community regarding drivers. Not quite as bad as Quantenna but still pretty bad. Their raw performance is great but WiFi was lacking

    2x2 AC Access Point Roundup

Tplink has released a v3 of the 225 which is based on a newer chipset. It now supports MU MIMO. Price appears to be the same which imo makes it an interesting alternative to the forum favorite AC Lite. https://www.tp-link.com/us/products/details/cat-4908_EAP225-V3.html

    RT-AC68U Version 3.0.0.4.384.10007

@arthurlien is it possible to enable auto update firmware on this model? Can this feature be added? It would be convenient and improves security by allowing the firmware to auto update.

    Fing Fingbox Reviewed

How does bandwidth analysis work without Fing being the gateway? Does it also use ARP spoofing?

What's the best go forward router for Asuswrt-Merlin?

Upgrading from my Asus AC68U. Which model is recommended for the best compatibility with Asuswrt-Merlin and longer term support? Would that be the AC88U or the AC86U? I was leaning towards the AC86U since it's on a newer platform and AFAIK @RMerlin develops on and uses that model right now.

    Google WiFi Reviewed

Google added the ability to change the DHCP IP range with the latest firmware. It's encouraging to see them make continual improvements to the product, I had some fears initially when they never delivered on the smart home functionalities and Google's history of abandoning products. It's also...

Random net loss, 5g going down

Switching to 40mhz on my AC68U helped for a few months but it’s starting to drop the 5ghz randomly again. It self recovers but my devices lose connectivity for 5-10 minutes. Searching for a new router now.

Open Mesh A40 & A60 Access Points Reviewed

Is it valid to compare the wireless charts to the router charts with the same test revisions numbers? For example the 5ghz downlink profile for the A40 shows 62 Mbps and the GT-AC5300 shows 240 Mbps. Or is that an invalid comparison since they're different types?
