    Parental Controls

You could try a Netgear UTM device if you don't want to mess with a DIY approach. It is probably a bit more expensive (you need the annual subscription) but it should be simpler to deploy / configure. While it may not be as capable as a pfSense solution I think it can do what you are asking (I...

    D-Link AP: Deauth cycle

stevech, What's to complain about? It only took 8 long months and wasted a lot of my time :(. I have to say I am somewhat disappointed for what is supposed to be a business grade AP. BBs are very much a business tool so they should have tested with them. That said, at least it is now...

    D-Link AP: Deauth cycle

Finally Fixed!! After opening a case with D-Link and getting them to properly test at 3rd Line Support they have provided a firmware update 1.25 that fixes this problem :D. I guess they will make this publicly available shortly.

    Basic Cable Routing Question

Greg, All of my CAT6 cables from outlets around the house come in to a patch panel in a rack. Also in the rack are my router and main switch. The switch in the rack is then connected to the patch panel with patch leads. Servers are directly patched into the switch as they are co-located. The...

Home Office Network build - advice needed

Tim W, Have you looked at the Netgear UTM range? The UTM5 (which I have at home) will provide SSL VPN and more "protection" features (with the subscription) for a similar price to the FVS318G. I run a D-Link DAP-2553 (Wireless N capable) with a separate VLAN for guest access (mobile...

    NAS for Mac Photography Editing

I store the RAW files on User Shares and not iSCSI targets, so there is no problem with multiple user access. It is only the Lightroom Catalogs that I have on iSCSI targets due to a limitation of Lightroom itself not allowing them to be on User Shares. Catalogs are therefore a pain to share...

    NAS for Mac Photography Editing

Why do you want them to connect to the same target? Why not create two separate targets if the folder / data for each user is different?

    NAS for Mac Photography Editing

Hi, I have been running an older TS-509 Pro since late 2008 with 5 disks in RAID 5 configuration. I started with 5 Samsung 1TBs and have recently upgraded to 5 Hitachi 5K3000 2TB drives, also in RAID 5. Although these Hitachi's are NOT on QNAP's compatibility list (for the TS-509 Pro) they...

Trying to understand various link aggregation options on my TS459 Pro+

dwkoehler, I believe that the other "trunking" modes available on the QNAP do not require a "smart" switch in order to work - and if you have a smart switch no configuration is required. Have you tried any of these modes with no LACP configuration of your Cisco switch? I have my QNAP...

Trying to understand various link aggregation options on my TS459 Pro+

You need to configure the switch ports as dynamic, not static for LACP (802.3ad). I am not sure what specific configuration settings are required though as I am unfamiliar with your Cisco switch.

    D-Link AP: Deauth cycle

    Hi, I have a D-Link DAP-2553 and I keep getting the following messages in the log: Apr 4 18:31:11 [Wireless] Group key update success:STA xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Apr 4 18:01:25 [Wireless] 4-way handshake success:STA xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Apr 4 18:01:25 [Wireless] Association Success:STA...

Looking for a small adavanced switch with link agregation

Hi, I have a QNAP TS-509 and use an HP ProCurve 1810g-24 set up with LACP. This all works very well - I have had zero problems with this setup. I also use iSCSI targets (from a Win 7 PC). I can highly recommend this switch. They also do an 8-port version.
