Do 2 Lan Port mean Faster Backups?

Install a dual NIC in the PC and team them. You may get an increase depending upon what else is transferring to and from the NAS. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

what even ARE all the modern open source router options?

Using the free version of pfsense, you can achieve about the same performance from an older PC with a dual 1GB NIC and a SSD. I used an old dual core with 4GB RAM I had just sitting in the basement. I have never had any issue with it. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

    Replace entire large home network?

If you're running a business then don't skimp. If you do you'll be replacing stuff sooner then you'd expect. I'd second the Ruckus or even Meru or Cisco Meraki. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

    Replace entire large home network?

I have a friend from work that has installed some Ubiquity APs and they work well. I know the Meraki APs aren't cheap but I have had 0% issues with coverage or anything else. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

    Replace entire large home network?

I'd suggest pfsense for the router (either purchased device or installed on a PC/server) and Cisco Meraki for the APs. I've been running both of these and they are rock solid. As for the L2 switch, I have a used Nortel 5520-48 and a 5510-48 in a stack. The 5520 is PoE. Sent from my SM-G930V...

Basic Setup Tips for Baystack 5510-48T

The software/firmware aren't the latest but should be fine. Now that you have an IP and if the rest of the network settings are correct, you should be able to get to the WebGUI unless you turned it off. As far as the physical setup of your network, you will want the modem plugged into the...

Proper way to use a switch?

True, but if you have local traffic it will need to go from the router to the switch and back again whereas if you put everything in the switch, then it will stay local to the switch. Think of the router as a "core switch" in a MDF and the switch as a switch in an IDF. If you have the ports on...

Problem with adding new switch to network

    Depends on the switch.

    Windows 10 dual gigabit?

You can use NIC teaming on Win10 and Windows Server 2012 without any special setup on the switch.

Proper way to use a switch?

Use a proper switch and use STP (Spanning Tree Protocol). Depending on the router in use and unless it is some commercial/business class version, you will add CPU load and increase memory usage. I'd suggest use the ports on the switch first.
