Did you ever find out the issue and how to fix it as I'm going through the same thing.

I have the GT AX11000 pro and always use stock firmware. Anytime I always manually download the latest firmware. In the case, the latest one when check for latest firmware update it says " could not retrieve firmware info/update from server ". This is what my logs show right after I try to check...
