Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

IPv6 support for asuscomm ddns doesn't work with ISP's IPv4 PPPoE and HE's IPv6 6in4 tunnel. It seems to be a bug of the ddns client, not ddns provider. Log saysddns: ppp0 has not yet obtained an WAN IPv6 address. and ddns would refuse to update. There is no IPv6 from ISP's IPv4 PPPoE so...

Setup for two Pi-Holes, IPv4 and IPv6, no DNS leaks

Unfortunately this is not available in GUI for AC68U. I posted a feature request for a GUI option to set IPv6 DNS pushed by DHCP and after some time it did made into an update but only for HND platform. Check scripts from this thread to do the same on your AC68U...

always DNS leaked with strict DNS rule setup

I haven't test strict myself but exclusive pushed from the server and DoT results in using both randomly. It's a family member's router and I would like to use pihole at my home without exposing DNS directly to WAN. DoT is only a backup but I didn't expect it break the exclusive option in...

Anyone using DOH3 or DOQ for DNS-queries on ASUS Merlin?

When it's DoT vs DoH, I prefer DoT given the simplicity without HTTPS but DoH does have some advantages. Performance is better with HTTP/2 as stated in RFC 8484 "The messages in classic UDP-based DNS [RFC1035] are inherently unordered and have low overhead. A competitive HTTP transport needs to...

always DNS leaked with strict DNS rule setup

Had the same problem and Initially I thought it might be IPv6 but the real issue is DoT. If you use DoT and set VPN DNS to strict/exclusive, sometimes your DNS request will still go through DoT. Simply disable DoT will fix the problem. Disable rebind protection by itself won't help. IMO setting...

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.7 is now available for all models

After further testing, "setting client router's IPv6 DNS to client router's IPv4 DNS encoded in IPv6 format" somehow still leaks. I'll try 386.7_1 later.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.7 is now available for all models

Found three bugs related to OpenVPN and IPv6: 1. [Asus router as client] If the OpenVPN profile enables IPv6, then OpenVPN client on Asus router will not work unless IPv6 is enabled on router and vice versa. Log shows: ovpn-client1: Linux ip -6 addr add failed: external program exited with...

How to disable Aimesh node's 2.4ghz radio?

If that's true then why would there be an option to disable 2.4GHz in AiMesh menu?

How to disable Aimesh node's 2.4ghz radio?

Found this thread after debugging my aimesh system for hours. I have a GT-AX6000 and two RT-AC68U as nodes. All clients run on 5GHz so I disabled 2.4GHz on GT-AX6000. After adding both RT-AC68U as nodes they would work fine until I disabled the 2.4GHz on the nodes. They would connect to...

Finally figured out dual wan routing rules

Would you mind share your script please? Thanks in advance.

OpenVPN on the BCM4912 (ZenWiFi Pro XT2 or GT-AX6000)

I usually prefer Qualcomm over Broadcom but in this case I wouldn't say Qualcomm is better. Both BCM4912 and IPQ8078A are 4 core A53 at about 2GHz with DDR4 and PCIe 3.0. Broadcom uses TSMC 16nm while Qualcomm uses Samsung 14nm. These two processes have roughly same transistor density. However...

OpenVPN on the BCM4912 (ZenWiFi Pro XT2 or GT-AX6000)

I think the best way to figure out the power is to get a data sheet/ask ASUS or measure with multimeter. From the spec available from Broadcom’s website, there isn’t much difference between 4908 and 4912. 0.2GHz bump of the same CPU, DDR4 memory controller, 2x10Gb PHY, one extra channel of PCIe...

OpenVPN on the BCM4912 (ZenWiFi Pro XT2 or GT-AX6000)

What your experienced is a typical ASUS design choice/flaw. They put a decent sized aluminum heatsink on the chip but with a really thick and thermally non conductive thermal pad. IIRC they do this to reduce surface temperature on the exterior of the router and create an illusion of "good...

OpenVPN on the BCM4912 (ZenWiFi Pro XT2 or GT-AX6000)

Most likely huge improvements on power and temperature. BCM4908 is built on (fairly sure it's TSMC because the other fab with 28nm is samsung and broadcom usually use TSMC) 28nm while BCM4912 is built on (only TSMC markets as 16nm so it must be them) 16nm. The density of the process almost...

Finally figured out dual wan routing rules

For a long long time, people said the routing rules weren't working at all. I used to believe that top rule has priority because that's how it worked in my case. My top rule was 192.168.1.56 to all via primary wan and bottom rule was 192.168.1.0/24 to all via secondary wan. It worked flawlessly...
