Need help with new ZenWiFi ET8 install

Right now there are limited clients that can use the 6ghz band so the 6E is of limited benefit. 6ghz is a bit higher bandwidth but is also less effective at penetrating walls. Personally I'd choose 6E expecting more clients will support it in the future and it is nice to have options.

Need help with new ZenWiFi ET8 install

Have you tried moving the 2nd node to the 1st floor with a wired backhaul? I have an ET8 with the router in the basement and a wired backhaul to the other node on the 2nd floor. All 3 floors are covered well in that arrangement for me.

Release ASUS ZenWiFi ET8 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.46061 (2022/01/11)

WiFi channel hopping may have settled down. It's held the same channel for over a day now. No noticed issues yet. Everything seems to be staying connected other then during the mentioned channel changes.

Release ASUS ZenWiFi ET8 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.46061 (2022/01/11)

Before upgrading fairly stable except for a few Nest cams and hubs and August locks connecting and reconnecting occasionally. I was auto rebooting weekly. After a few weeks I may try turning off the auto reboot. So far I've noticed it likes to change the 2.4Ghz channel a lot as in 2-3 times a...

Release ASUS ZenWiFi ET8 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.46061 (2022/01/11)

Upgraded from previous release (not RC3) this morning. So far running fine. Probably take a couple days with it to get a good opinion on the stability compared to previous.

No firmware updates available for the ZenWifi ET8?

Have you tried adding a scheduled daily reboot? Maybe rebooting at night will stop the day time reboots.

New ASUS ZenWiFi ET8 with Wifi 6E

For whatever reason the random reboots seem to have reduced to where I have not noticed one in several days. I do have scheduled reboots occuring 3 times a week.

New ASUS ZenWiFi ET8 with Wifi 6E

I'm getting about 1 reboot every day or two. I do have a scheduled reboot twice a week right now but that does not seem to help as the last random one was about 12h after a scheduled reboot.

New ASUS ZenWiFi ET8 with Wifi 6E

It rebooted again today. opq, does yours also drop to using the 5Ghz band for backhaul when it does one of these reboots? Doing an actual reboot from the menu puts it back to 6Ghz backhaul.

New ASUS ZenWiFi ET8 with Wifi 6E

Had one of these reboots today. The router uptime indicates it rebooted as well as the log.

New ASUS ZenWiFi ET8 with Wifi 6E

I was talking about a static IP on the router itself (the one it uses for the ISP), not reserving them for the local network. In my case the ISP was changing the IP it was expecting my router to be using. Ended up not being the issue anyway.

New ASUS ZenWiFi ET8 with Wifi 6E

Update: the ISP signal strength looks like it was the cause of the internet drops. Too bad it started at the same time I installed the ET8. Spent way to long trying to troubleshoot that. Only remaining negative with the ET8 is that my Nest cams occasionally drop offline and then come back...

New ASUS ZenWiFi ET8 with Wifi 6E

Nope, the tech thinks it was probably just some work or new installs in the neighborhood.

New ASUS ZenWiFi ET8 with Wifi 6E

Update: ISP found the signal strength to the modem was borderline and did some magic to improve it. The frequent drops seem to have stopped so that rather than the router was probably the main or only cause. Sorry for the false alarm. The coincidence of the ISP starting to have problems at the...
