Router Port Specs Needed for Milti-Gig Internet

Yeah, I know things keep changing. But, you never know when hardware might go south and you need to get something fast, I always like to do my research for that stuff. Thanks for the thoughts on some ports being 1 or 10Gbps, but cannot negotiate speeds in the middle and would negotiate down to...

Router Port Specs Needed for Milti-Gig Internet

Just doing to research before the time comes to upgrade my router at some point. The desire is there to plan for the future and multi-gig internet service of 2.5 or 5Gbps. Would I need something with an internet WLAN port of 10Gbps for the internet service and then an additional regular...

Using the Nighthawk M6 Pro to feed internet into router

Found the resolution. I set the gateway on the M6 Pro to 192.168.2.1 which allowed me to keep the gateway on my router as its default 192.168.1.1. This resulted in no conflict have my router automatically changing its gateway and dhcp IP range.

Using the Nighthawk M6 Pro to feed internet into router

Trying to use the M6 Pro to feed internet access into my home router (LinkSys EA8500) as a backup for my cable modem. I can get everything to work fine in this setup, but I notice that as soon as I hook my router ethernet cable into the M6 Pro, that my local IP address scheme gets switched from...

Powerline Accesspoint (really just the AP part)

With any AP, I would have to do some tweaking to get the phones to roam to different points. Most likely would have to enable "Allow WiFi Roaming Scans" in Android developer options to make it work right. I think that effects battery, so I really didn't want to do that. It's funny how all this...

Powerline Accesspoint (really just the AP part)

I've got a Linksys EA8500 that does a great job at floor 1 and 2 of my house. I've got it located on floor 1, but where it sits, it has to go diagonally through several walls and even the AC ducts to my basement couch. I get a 5GHz signal there, but not by much, and occasionally, it drops...

    Channel Selection

Question, if my AP is set to AC only on 5GHz, and the others close to me are set to accept N as well, then will my router still interfere with theirs? The "Link Score" for my channel on InSSIDer was 100 with no overlap. I'm guessing that the other networks are too far, or that the above...

    Channel Selection

I've done a bunch of research on this, and have seen the channel maps like this one: http://www.networkcomputing.com/wireless/channel-bonding-wifi-rules-and-regulations/199326059 Question, if a neighbor is on channel 48 with a 40Mhz, and I am on channel 36, a selection of 80Mhz, would our...

    Sideband Discussion

I have a setting in my advanced settings of the Linksys EA8500. For the 2.4Ghz, it was set to Auto Sideband. For the 5GHz, it was set to Lower Sideband. What is this setting doing? For example, if my auto channel has selected 36 on 5GHz, what would the side band lower be doing and should...

    EA8500, MU-MIMO, GS7

That's what I figured, better getting the 2x2 bandwidth than MU. Tough part is, Linksys (Belkin) left MU-MIMO switch out of their firmware, smh... So, I guess I need to get a router that has that switch available to disable, or find one that came out right before MU was a thing (AC-RT68). Was...

    EA8500, MU-MIMO, GS7

I have the EA8500 and 2 Galaxy S7s and a couple other wireless devices. The phones are great, but they do have a known issue with MU-MIMO chipsets. If the router uses MU-MIMO, the GS7 drops back to 1x1, for a max of 433mbps negotiated speeds. On non-mimo routers, it's back to using 2x2 at...

Wireless Channels (80MHz and Channel Selection)

The EA8500 has been a good router so far. If you follow this thread, there where few issues that seemed to have cleared up with firmware (Linksys is doing a good job at releasing new versions in a reasonable time frame). We'll see how things progress over a few more months.

Wireless Channels (80MHz and Channel Selection)

I have read some articles about 80MHz and how channels work, and still trying to grasp this. My EA8500 has a selection for 80MHz, when you select AC Only clients. In my house, I only have AC clients and my others are wired. Guests can use the 2.4GHz band in mixed mode. I noticed that my...

    Reboot Linksys Router via Commandline

This is infact a local router tab. Maybe not the example I listed off the web, but it looks the exact same as in that page. I am getting to the router by the local IP. I tried enabling the status bar in IE to see what happens when I hover over the Reboot button, but nothing shows up. Side...
