You are still under warranty? Will you file for another replacement?

    DNS over TLS

We agree on everything (very good points on your above posts :)), save for my position that if privacy/anonymity is important or desired, I believe that and educated/informed use of a public VPN will give you greater assurance of same than being naked  with none.

    DNS over TLS

You are correct that the only way to be 100% anonymous is to go off the grid altogether. But there are few of us willing to do that. So, if you stay on the grid, you can use no public VPN and be 100% guaranteed that you are not anonymous. Or, based on a variety of things (such as history of "no...

    DNS over TLS

In the restaurant example, I was only speaking of trust, not anonymity. I assume you eat out occasionally, and have trust in those that prepare your food. WITHOUT a public VPN, you are 100% exposed/cannot be anonymous. WITH a properly chosen/evaluated public VPN you can have a high level of...

    DNS over TLS

Depends whether you desire privacy, anonymity, both, or neither. And yes, I am well versed that there is never any "absolute" privacy or anonymity on the internet. Like all things, it is a matter of degree. If you don't run any VPN, then you have neither. If you desire privacy, then yes, a...

    DNS over TLS

I respectfully disagree. While everything you say should be taken into consideration, it's similar to saying that an expert thief can defeat any lock that you install on your house, and that anyway, the locksmith might keep a copy of your keys, so don't install any locks. o_O

    RT-AC86U Wireless Tuning

With the plethora of options/settings for wireless, has anyone done a tuning/optimization guide of sorts for this router (or for Asus routers generally), or at least one that explains the various options?. Being relatively new at this, I'm unfamiliar with many of the settings. While I can start...

    RT-86U CPU

But the above references BCM4908 and BCM4906 CPUs, both of which are listed as A53s here: https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Broadcom Also, in the SNB review here: https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-reviews/33158-asus-rt-ac86u-dual-band-ac2900-wireless-router-reviewed it's listed as a...

    RT-86U CPU

A little confused on the CPU. Forum/online info seems to indicate the CPU is a Cortex-A53, but Merlin System Information reports it as a B53?

    Major Issues w/RT-AC86U

Ok. Thanks! In any case, I've made my decision. I will take the risk of getting the issue after my return period is up. The router itself (possibly getting the issue notwithstanding) is the best one that I can find in its price range. It's performance so far has been almost flawless. With the...

    Major Issues w/RT-AC86U

I'm glad you acknowledge that. I find documented reports of the issue from Jan. 2018, shortly after it's release. I see a report yesterday from one just purchased. I don't see any acknowledgement anywhere from the maker of the issue. What indication is there that it is fixed or that the...
