UniFi Dream Router 7 vs Asus RT-BE88U

I'm in the UK so not sure what transmit power regulations are like here compared to the US. I can wire them all up no problem. From the cursory reading I am doing, it seems throughput and range are generally better if you can ceiling mount with the dish models compared to the others. If so...

UniFi Dream Router 7 vs Asus RT-BE88U

Thanks, will do some thinking. I do need LAN ports, but only for one room and I've already set all that to go into the nearby closet where the little 'network cabinet' (A slim wall mounted BESTA with a glass door) resides. I've got a modem and the ASUS router in there. TBH one of the reasons I...

UniFi Dream Router 7 vs Asus RT-BE88U

I'm mostly looking at the cloud gateway because generally with the lower priced UniFi products they always have some really annoying glaring omission, or the throughput is terrible if you have the inbuilt security stuff enabled. That turned me off them for years, but it seems the Fibre is...

UniFi Dream Router 7 vs Asus RT-BE88U

Yeah that's fair, and if I skip WiFi 7 I won't need to worry about the whole 'IoT' SSID that the BE88U sets up for you for legacy devices that crap the bed with WPA3 I guess.

UniFi Dream Router 7 vs Asus RT-BE88U

That's pretty sweet. If I were to eventually grab a cloud gateway fibre, which APs would you recommend? I'm thinking one per floor. This house isn't huge (can't remember sqft off by heart), but it does have old plaster walls which put a dent in the strength through a floor. Perhaps I can...

    Upgrading to RT-AX88U Pro

That's fair. I'm not too bothered about 6GHz because in an old house with thick plaster walls like mine, it means it would be absolutely useless without an AP in like, every room. I just want these weird damn issues with 2.4GHz that ASUS seems to have to cease.

UniFi Dream Router 7 vs Asus RT-BE88U

Ok, it is great I came across this thread after my experience with the BE88U here: https://www.snbforums.com/threads/upgrading-to-rt-ax88u-pro.94221/#post-949955 I was thinking about giving up on ASUS and perhaps going with a UniFi system, so I'm going to have to read this thread closely. The...

    Upgrading to RT-AX88U Pro

One of the issues I read about that one was one of the cores constantly pegging to 100%. A few of the other issues were resolved with updates, but I'm seeing claims that this one is not. And some are suspicious of how low it is priced given what it does, which makes them think they're pricing...

    Upgrading to RT-AX88U Pro

I absolutely have a problem because a computer that worked absolutely fine the previous day and now won't work at all on 2.4Ghz (speeds of barely a couple Mbps when testing) doesn't come out of nowhere. I did think maybe something happened on the PC as other 2.4GHz clients seemed ok, but then...

    Upgrading to RT-AX88U Pro

Might have spoken a bit too soon. Everything worked great up until today, where the 2.4GHz started crapping out on that test computer (normally wired but can't plug it in for a while). The signal strength is -63dB so should be perfectly fine. Checking the Wireless log shows the Rx/Tx craps out...

    Upgrading to RT-AX88U Pro

Further question. From what I've gathered, the AX88U Pro is well regarded for a good 2.4/5GHz radio range. Is the BE88u better or the same in this regard? There's been no regression, right? I ask as I live in an older home with lath and plaster walls, so they're quite thick and dense. Stronger...

    Upgrading to RT-AX88U Pro

Needs to be wall mountable, so self standing ones are not an option. Thanks for the advice. Any thoughts on the other questions I had?

    Upgrading to RT-AX88U Pro

Hi all, Been running an old AC87U for many, many years. I know it was plagued with issues when it was first released, but it worked fine for me on Merlin, so I just lived with it. The past few years its stability has been declining, as after a month of uptime it would just stop working and...
