    Agree, this is what I did: Flash the firmware, configured the router, and experienced the issue. Next, I did factory reset (following this ASUS article), configured the router again, and experienced failure, again. :(

    Almost a year later, returning to say that upgrading the 5300 and AiMesh nodes to Merlin 384.19 fixed everything for a good while! I'm curious how they do their thing considering they're designed to use the same SSID unlike the default configurations for most other extenders.     Thanks for the very thoughtful replies. I am glad to know the Eero devices have Ethernet ports (something I was looking for on the Nest Wifi devices). I have Ethernet switches out the yang, so that wouldn't be a hardship to set up. I've been concerned about range with all these little things...

    After occurring three times over two days, the problem has not resurfaced. The only thing I did different the last time I fixed it was to power off the two media bridges at the same time I powered off the AC5300, forcing all clients- wired or wireless- to reconnect.
