Thanks all. Especially @Tech9 for hunting those posts down. Interesting that some people have had some success with the nvram upload ... but having seen the range of opinions here, I'm probably going to do what I've done in the past and save the html pages just to be cautious (a £200 brick...
My AC68U is being end of lifed. I'm considering replacing it with an Asus RT-AX86U Pro.
Is there an accepted way of transferring an existing setup with Merlin s/w so that I can (hopefully) seamlessly move the config files to the new router ?
Cheers, Pete
Ah - I see. Apologies for the confusion.
I've set up a cron job to rsync the ssd backups to a brand new usb key daily, so hopefully getting the performance and reliability of the SSD and a belt and braces job with the new usb key.
I'll have a look at setting up a partition on one of my...
Hi Viktor. Transferred the stuff from my 2 USB keys to the Samsung 128Gb SSD in a caddy. All seems to be working well.
However, a question - you suggested putting everything on the one partition. I've done that and now Backupmon warns me about having the backup system on the same disk...
I have a spare 128Gb SSD so I've ordered an enclosure for that. Thanks for the advice.
This was the result of a disk check after reboot:
disk_check.log has this content:

All of the exit codes for the usb3.tar.gz came back as 0. one of the jffs.tar.gz came back with '1' and the message:
"tar: short read"
My guess is that you're correct - I'm seeing my USB drive deteriorating. I'll see what happens on the reboot, but I'm putting this down to a bad USB drive.
Pete
OK - I've ordered a couple of replacement drives.
I'll try to do this tomorrow.
Well I redirected stdout to null and nothing came out on stderr.
I'm running a batch on all of the usb3.tar.gz files on the usb drive to check the return value.
Question: is there a way to increase the verbosity...
Hi Viktor.
Started on 4th March with a JFFS error:
**ERROR**: Errors detected creating JFFS tar file.
then the errors for the usb tar file started 2 days ago and I've had three episodes of that message (the last one being a manual attempt).
Yes - tar tzf gives what appears to be a full...
Hi.
My local domain on my Asus AC68U running Merlin is, for example myname.co.uk. All of my local machines therefore can resolve names such as laptop1.myname.co.uk and get the local IP address.
I have an external web server www.myname.co.uk running on a digital ocean server. My problem is...
@Jack Yaz - Would it be possible to have an option to keep more than 30 days of data ? Perhaps an option to archive records > 30 days to a USB drive ?
Or do I need to pull down the sqlite database on a regular basis ?
You can probably roll that back, because the 7za binary I had didn't work anyway. May be worth noting in the README that it is worth running a couple of cycles of opkg update/opkg upgrade to ensure that the entware packages are up to date ?
OK. I'd forgotten it was like a debian package management system. after opkg update and opkg upgrade it informed me
File /opt/etc/opkg.conf upgraded, new repository set!
Please run opkg update + opkg upgrade once more
so I've run the update/upgrade cycle twice and now I have the 7z binary...
