I noticed my RT-AC86U seemed to be running hot and the wifi had issues connecting sometimes so i replaced the three thermal pads with 3mm copper shims and added two 80MM fans. That should take care of the heat. Hopefully the router did not already get damaged. I even cut out the plastic behind...
