Working without problems now for nearly 6 weeks. Previously had issues around 5ghz channel 0 bug when using channel 36 or 40; it would cause problems within 5-6 days.
Settings that worked: Auto channel selection on both bands, dual band smart connect on.
If anybody encounters this thread... the issue is seemingly fixed on stock 82072 with auto channel selection on both bands. It has been 2 weeks of it running without issues.
Cannot attest to how long it stays that way and whether it is indeed fixed, but previous run ins with the issue were at 4...
Just a report about this fw with my earlier problems of 5ghz crashing (and possibly the same channel 0 problem), setting the channel to auto (on 149) it has been working fine for a week now.
No interruptions or unstable connection reports on hours of zoom/webex calls.
RAM usage is at 94%...
Yes that's what prompted me to post a quick update to this thread since previous accounts only mentioned about this behavior for 81992. I did however enter my PPPOE info in the quick setup so it should know what time it was.
Wish I could say the same.. Giving this router one last shot with auto...
I have not yet gone through the entirety of this thread, however during my troubleshooting vpn performance I loaded up 81858 yesterday.
During the initial configuration itself a page showed up that 82072 was available giving me only two choices of either updating at night or updating...
I have so far not had much luck in restoring the server settings, but yes worth a try :).
I guess I will just restore the entire thing if not the server alone. Probably a mini project for the friday eve.
Previously I had left HMAC on default on merlin. What is that default?
I had seen this article but it is from 2 years ago and I guess it was because of openvpn 2.3.2.
Could choosing HMAC sha384 and E HMAC bidirectional have contributed to a ~40% hit? I may have gone a bit overboard.
Edit: Also I guess stock only allows for one openvpn server so cannot configure...
Yeah you are correct. Btw it is off topic I know, but can anyone confirm that this stock firmware has hardware acceleration enabled for OpenVPN (AES 256 GCM)?
I seem to be having heavily reduced performance for my clients. :( It could also be my config though so not sure.
Well apparently this is not new.. found this thread from 2018. Also appears this router has been specifically "blessed" with this setting.
So merlin fw is not stable with my internet connection (apparently, still testing stock) and stock wont wait for me to install an update. Awesome!
