Time Machine restore: Can't find restore source

Time Machine server on Asus routers is AFP based (netatalk).. it doesn't support Time Machine over SMB.
  2. Q

    RT-AC86U random crash

    Yep, stock firmware.
  3. Q

    RT-AC86U random crash

Thanks for advice, will try manual reset and then set up router from scratch.
  4. Q

    RT-AC86U random crash

Web GUI - Administration - Restore/save/etc. - Factory default with initialize all settings
  5. Q

    RT-AC86U random crash

Yes, nvram was cleared (factory default with initialize all settings checked)..
  6. Q

    RT-AC86U random crash

RT-AC86U is crashing once a week without any apparent reason.. but when it runs, it's perfect - no WiFi dropouts, great speed and coverage (serving about 15 devices on Ethernet and WiFi). I can't find anything interesting in crashlog, maybe some hw failure (is one from the beginning, September...

    Release RT-AC86U 11th January 2021 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.41634

You are not only one here with degree in electronics (or solid state physics), I think.. and while we can argue about manufacturing process of particular ICs/SoCs (and there are big differences as you wrote), the TI study is still valid in general. I wouldn't still run such SoC as in RT-AC86U...

    Release RT-AC86U 11th January 2021 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.41634

Texas Instruments should know about it very well - they invented first integrated circuit, TTL logic 74xx series, etc.. and supplied military applications (like semiconductors in rocket guidance systems) for 60 years.
  9. Q

    Release RT-AC86U 11th January 2021 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.41634

Stability first, functionality second.. although I'm tempted by 386, as it (finally) got separate IP range for guest network.

    Release RT-AC86U 11th January 2021 Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.41634

So, what's the consensus here, is it worth to upgrade to 386 branch? I'm still running 384.82072, not using AiMesh (and don't plan using it).

    A tip for new iOS14/iPadOS14/MacOS 11/Watch OS 7 users.

Found it in Apple developer documentation.. Users are always in control - users can control enablement of the feature at any time for each network. Addresses are generated randomly for every network Addresses are not linked to your identity Addresses are updated for all networks daily by the...

    Release RT-AC86U Version 3.0.0.4.384.82072

Drag and drop works here without problems - I connect to router's smb share in Finder (Connect to Server, ⌘K), it opens a new window and I can drag and drop files to it (and starts copying).. using OS X Mojave.
  13. Q

    Release RT-AC86U Version 3.0.0.4.384.82072

    Connection from my MacBook Pro.. as reported by smbutil. SERVER_NAME RT-AC86U-73D0.local USER_ID 501 SMB_NEGOTIATE SMBV_NEG_SMB1_ENABLED SMB_NEGOTIATE SMBV_NEG_SMB2_ENABLED SMB_NEGOTIATE...

    Release RT-AC86U Version 3.0.0.4.384.82072

Maybe it's old news (or it was already present on previous stock firmwares), but I can connect to Samba share with SMB v2 (2.002).. thought it was possible on Merlin only.
  15. Q

    Release RT-AC86U Version 3.0.0.4.384.82072

I took out RT-AC86U from storage yesterday and connected it to internet for some testing - it had fairly old firmware (from March or so), not even 5 min online and it automatically updated to this newest version.. some new "feature"? It would be nice at least to have option to disable it..
