    I'm an idiot. I found that the wireless adapter in my laptop is not an a/c card. I thought it was. :eek: I'm going to throw in the correct card and try again. Thanks for the help Jim, and sorry!

    I have performed a factory reset, and left all settings at default - that made no difference. I did not remove the USB flash drive I have attached - I have it plugged into the USB 2.0 port. Could that be an issue? I read about the issues with USB 3.0 shielding so I avoid using that port.

    Okay, so it's not the build. I tried the previous build, and the stock Asus firmware, clearing NVRAM each time, and using default settings. I cannot get the 5 GHz band to change at all. Any ideas?
