kamoj didn't need it (he needs an R9000 if anyone has one), and I don't have the patience of some of you, so I put mine eBay for parts/not working. Thank you everyone for the help and ideas, hopefully whoever gets it next will put it to use.

@verbage I can confirm that my R7800 is saving its settings again after sitting in a box for a week. I don't trust it any more though, and have moved on. @kamoj would my r7800 help you test? Send me your address and I'll ship it to you tomorrow.

I bet you caught the bug too. If you reboot your router do you lose all of your settings?

Unfortunately it didn't fix the issue, I still can't save any settings. I'm really happy to have found this forum though, you're all so generous and helpful. I'll be browsing recommendation posts here for a new router.

I was on the same firmware as you, V1.0.2.74.1SF and the issue sprang up around the same time. Could it have been daylight savings time? serial 5k41885d00*** I bought mine on eBay so no warranty for me :(
