    Is this setup ok?

Thank you for the tips coxhaus. But as I mentioned earlier the switch also acts as a media converter, converting the fiber optical media at the first floor to TP running to second floor where the router is located. Obviously this is simply a home network setup and nothing is written in...

    Is this setup ok?

Ok, thank you all! As mentioned before this setup idea was forced by physical space limitations. Alternatively I have to use a second router at the switch to separate the two networks and maintain security.

    Is this setup ok?

Hi coxhaus I must be missing something here! How is the server (computer 5) exposed when a firewall is installed on it? This will be my DMZ segment with a combined server/firewall!

    Is this setup ok?

Hi TonyH, thanks for the reply! Hmm, please explain what’s weird and unusual about isolating segments of a network! The computer (5) connected to the switch (1) will mostly serve wan side requests, but occasionally even requests from lan side (syslog). I don’t want to persuade anyone...

    Is this setup ok?

Thank you coxhaus. I apologise for not being clear about the 5 public ip addresses, perhaps that information wasn’t relevant at all. My isp provides a maximum of 5 public addresses, but I will only use 2, one for the router (2) and one for the computer (5). There will be a firewall...

    Is this setup ok?

Hi all I have some questions about this setup: Is the setup ok? Security, performance etc. Should I move the computer (5) behind the router (2)? Security, performance etc. Is the communication from a laptop (4) or RT-N66U (2) to the computer (5) "direct" or via Internet? The...

    Email Logs to Administrator

Perhaps a syslog server! There are many alternatives both free and commercial, even "online" variants like: https://papertrailapp.com/ Hope this helps.

    MAC spoofing?

Hi The problem is that it happens so randomly, often with no clients (and no traffic) connected to the router. I’m running out of ideas here. But I know for sure that no one has connected to the router, as I changed the SSID, key and admin password Sunday afternoon.

    MAC spoofing?

RMerlin:Thank you for taking the time to answer my question! Perhaps I should too, just curious about what is causing it!

    MAC spoofing?

RMerlin: Can this be related to my issue? 3.0.0.4.270.25 changelog - FIXED: No longer forward packets with a LAN IP as destination (Asus bug, fixed CDRouter test firewall_2) Currently I'm running .220

    MAC spoofing?

Linkmaster: thanks for the tip. If someone has managed to connect to my router, shouldn’t I see that client (with the cloned address) at some point in the general log , perhaps as DHCP request, The log entry appears at the middle of the night with no DHCP events pre or post it. But another...

    associated or authorized

Hi I have seen (for quite a while) this in the wireless log: 00:20:00:91:69:DB associated This is NOT one of my clients, a search on the net shows that this is a Lexmark MAC. Normally when my clients connect I see: [MAC-address] associated authorized What I understand from the...

    MAC spoofing?

Some updates: I have contacted Asus support (via mail) and had received several mails asking the obvious: Latest FW, check unique addresses, disconnect clients, restart, reset… And I have done everything, even resetting and reflashing, but nothing helps. I have even disconnected the...

    MAC spoofing?

Another thing is that I see the log entry in the midle of the night when there is no activity on the network (all my clients off).
