Upgrade to Symmetrical Gigabit - Need to Upgrade my Asus RT-AC3100 (RMerlin FW: 384.17)

I figured it should have handled it, but I'm seeing about 1.2Gbps combined max throughput from the router that it's been able to handle. I'm going to play with it a little more this weekend, but truly at a loss that the crappy router they supplied is able to handle it with less specs. Oh well...

Upgrade to Symmetrical Gigabit - Need to Upgrade my Asus RT-AC3100 (RMerlin FW: 384.17)

The Optiplex that I have is an USFF PC, so it can't take any PCIe cards. Only USB3 to ETH adapters.

Upgrade to Symmetrical Gigabit - Need to Upgrade my Asus RT-AC3100 (RMerlin FW: 384.17)

I am definitely more willing to invest in a separate router and switch/s and keep the RT-AC3100 as an AP, and just wait for WiFi 6 to be more widely adopted and more AP options available.

Upgrade to Symmetrical Gigabit - Need to Upgrade my Asus RT-AC3100 (RMerlin FW: 384.17)

So I've recently upgraded my Internet to Symmetrical Gigabit Fiber. Equipment for Tests: Test Computer -> Late 2013 Macbook Pro w/ Thunderbolt Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Test Router -> Asus RT-AC3100 (RMerlin FW 384.17) Speeds: - ETH to ONT == 850-900 down // 900ish up - ONT > ETH > Asus > ETH >...

    Let's Encrypt Questions

Do we have to have Router Open to WAN for this to work now? Just spent a few hours trying to figure out my problem to get it working, and just wanted to verify that we now have to leave the router open to WAN. If so how do we lock it down from bruteforce attacks and what not?

Asus Lets Encrypt Certificate will not renew

Let’s Encrypt changed their backend to a new version and disabled the old version. ASUS is lagging behind in implementing a functioning Let’s Encrypt feature. Sooo, from the sounds of it we probably won’t see it running anytime soon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

[Beta] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.14 Beta is now available

So why is it that we need to have an SSL Cert like Let’s Encrypt? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

[Beta] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.14 Beta is now available

    - What can you do to make sure you aren't stuck by the bottleneck of using the asuscomm.com domain? - Can you use your own domain? If so how do you set that up with a dynamic IP? - Are there other free options?

Upgrade from Asus RT-AC66 to something better

Between the AC68 and the AC87, the AC68 wins on just about every front from what I can tell. But even then, why should I sit back and get subpar capabilities for a device that costs more than something that we know outperforms almost all Consumer Wireless AC routers out there. There may be a few...

Upgrade from Asus RT-AC66 to something better

I think the biggest thing is that I needed something today so I decided on getting the AC68P as it would offer what I needed today, and then I could utilize it as an AP in the future when the newer solutions start to roll out. But still, you need devices that support the tech to fully benefit...

    RMerlin Firmware [Forks]

I do understand that the Hggomes builds upon Merlins build, so a majority of it's stability is included with some updates and tweaks to boost the performance (manually). This ultimately may throw in bugs, but at least the core is pretty darn stable.

Upgrade from Asus RT-AC66 to something better

I never really considered anything other than the AC68 series based on a lot of the forums responses, I just wanted to brainstorm to see if I should bite the bullet for something now and use it as an AP or look to the future and suffer through the problems. It's not fun having to reset the...

Upgrade from Asus RT-AC66 to something better

Well I needed something today to replace the AC66 as it has been flaking quite a bit even with Stock Asus Firmware. So I'm going to be sending it in to Squaretrade under warranty and they will be cutting me a check for the value of the old router which is $7 more than what I paid for the AC68P...

Upgrade from Asus RT-AC66 to something better

I wouldn't be using 3AP's. Recap: -- Purchase new Wireless-AC Router ----> Use AC66 as AP along with new router. -- Purchase Wired-Only solution ----> Use AC66 as AP ----> Purchase second AP for range extension to part of house and deck with weak signal.
