    Asuswrt-Merlin - Project update

Really appreciate your commitment to finding a path forward, thank you.

    Selective Routing with Asuswrt-Merlin

A bit of a necroreply here, but I didn't see a response to your post and I've been struggling with this lately. It requires an inversion of the normal "everything out the WAN" logic, so I haven't found a way to ditch the mangle tables for the GUI RPDB / ip rule method, though I think the answer...

    [Official] RT-AC87U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.9460

Mine's stable with an active cooler on it. I have multi-week uptimes with 25 clients; 5 wired, 10x 2.4GHz and 10x 5GHz. The only issue I have is a 2015 Macbook Pro that doesn't like its 5GHz driver waking from sleep, and streaming from/to a local NAS on OS X is very poor. When I boot into...

    [Official] RT-AC87U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.9460

That's right, it's faulty. You said you didn't understand the heating concerns over this rev of the Quantenna chip, but it sounds like you do. This fault is apparent for many of the users on this forum going all the way back to launch day, as evidenced in multiple threads from long ago...

    [Official] RT-AC87U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.9460

What's to understand? Without laptop cooler, router crashes. With laptop cooler, router doesn't. Not too much science involved, for my experience with it.

[Beta] RT-AC68U/87U/3200 9.0.0.4_380_2295-g1423616 Beta for checking bug in Network Map

With this firmware, I get wake-from-sleep faults on a 2015 MBP running 10.11.3, that requires turning WiFi off and on again, until the next time it sleeps. It says it's connected, but no route occurs. Literally no other 5GHz AC device on my network has this problem. I'm very inclined to blame...

    [Official] RT-AC87U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.9460

Yep, my uptime is 7 days 11 hours and it's been stable all through that time. Also, since upgrading to Android 6 / Marshmallow, my Moto X 2014 has been holding a charge for multiple *days* now which is fairly incredible for this phone. I don't know whether the 9460 firmware contributed to the...

[Beta] RT-AC68U/87U/3200 9.0.0.4_380_2295-g1423616 Beta for checking bug in Network Map

You just cleared up one of the great mysteries of my home network. A constant notification in Windows 10 that the "scan to computer" functionality is not available. Like clockwork, and can't turn it off. Now it makes sense, it's the printer waking up to probes from the 87U. I wonder if these...

    [Firmware Bugs] RT-AC87u Firmware 3.0.0.4.378-9383

Well, it sounds like you've built up the science. If it's behaving this way at a factory reset with no security, against a wide range of clients using different 5G devices and driver stacks, and only on this firmware and not specific earlier ones, then IMHO the only possible solution is a bad...

    [Firmware Bugs] RT-AC87u Firmware 3.0.0.4.378-9383

I just tried pingplotter and I'm getting a flat line, constant 2ms roundtrip against the router IP from ~35 feet away through a door. What happens if you factory-reset the router, associate with ASUS_5G and ping against that? If that's clean, then there's some other post-config setting that is...

    [Official] RT-AC87U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.9313

That app is pretty slick. There's a surprising amount of data on there I hadn't expected. This router is finally starting to hit its potential, if only we can get MU-MIMO and the client support to go with it.

    [Official] RT-AC87U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.9177

Well, it looks like this firmware doesn't tolerate long uptimes after all. At 22 days uptime now, and I have over 3400 entries of this, enough to fill the syslog buffer entirely: [...] Oct 23 22:15:34 dnsmasq-dhcp[425]: failed to write /var/lib/misc/dnsmasq.leases: No space left on device...

    [Official] RT-AC87U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.9177

Short answer: yes This is with all beamforming on and a zoo of 5GHz devices.

    [Official] RT-AC87U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.9177

This sounds a lot like the ESET NOD32 problem from way back when. One possibility is to make sure that your router IP is whitelisted in whatever Antivirus / URL filter you're using. ESET, at least, was blocking 192.168.1.1 and causing all kinds of trouble with this router.

    [Official] RT-AC87U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.9177

\ | | / per the manual recommendation; this also forms the radio to cover both my media room (outer & inner antennae) and the basement (outer). Imagine a giant wireless donut on each one and you get a sense of where it'll cover in your home, bearing in mind your wall structure.
