    ASUS RT-AC68U Asuswrt-Merlin: XFS Support

Sorry for the thread necromancy, but I wanted to suggest a use. I just formatted a new 4 TB Western Digital My Passport external USB drive to back up my CentOS 7 server. I've rsync'd everything to it and now I'd love to plug the drive into my ASUS router rather than leave the drive plugged into...

IPv6 DNS using internal LAN server

Router: RT-AC66U Firmware: 380.58_0 IPv6 Connection Type: Native DHCP-PD: Enable Issue 1: If I just edit the IPv6 DNS server 1 setting and save, the router forgets its IPv6 lease, and only remembers the new DNS setting. I have to reboot the router to both preserve the lease and change the DNS...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 376.47 is out

World of Warcraft drops connection after a few minutes when using the dual WAN feature. I have a second cable modem connected to LAN 1 and have the dual WAN feature set to load balancing. Everything seems fine but WoW loses the connection after a few minutes of playing. I've tried a few times. I...

Port forwarding stops if load balancing dual WAN enabled

If you're willing to serve only through one interface, then you don't need to do anything on your webcam. In the router's web configuration, go to WAN, Dual WAN, then down at the bottom add a rule for your webcam. Set the source IP to that of your webcam, leave destination blank (it will become...

Native IPv6 for Merlin's Firmware Not Working

I just installed .47 with the dual WAN feature enabled. My 2nd cable modem has IPv6 so I enabled it as rajl describes in the first post. How do I know if it's working? I don't see any status on Secondary WAN with any v6 info. Just the v4 lease. I don't see anything in the system log that looks...

Port forwarding stops if load balancing dual WAN enabled

Alas, when I plug the second interface in, my World of Warcraft connection drops after a few minutes of play. I want to try the Merlin firmware to see if it fixes this but haven't had a chance to flash it.

Port forwarding stops if load balancing dual WAN enabled

I figured out the problem(s). 1) I'd neglected to enable ICMP in the firewall so ping from the remote system wasn't working. 2) I needed a dual WAN rule to insure the server always used the same external interface. There's a trick if you want your server to use both interfaces, but I...

    Traffic shaping

And from that thread it looks like we're screwed, that we're stuck with wondershaper's limitations for now, due to Broadcom's choices in closed source kernel modules.

    Traffic shaping

Ah, I see some stuff about this a couple months ago: http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showthread.php?t=18349

    Traffic shaping

I've used the Wondershaper in the past on Linux-based gateways and just tripped across a new project in traffic shaping, CeroWrt. Is any of this work finding its way into Merlin? Here's a blog on why Wondershaper is bad (but better than no shaping at all)...

Port forwarding stops if load balancing dual WAN enabled

Where's the logic that implements load balancing decisions? What marks a connection for diversion to the alternate WAN interface? For the present, that needs to be suppressed for any IP:port in the port forwarding list when in load balancing mode.

Port forwarding stops if load balancing dual WAN enabled

Aha. I found this nice article on multiple WAN interfaces that shows the needed trick: http://linux-ip.net/html/adv-multi-internet.html The internal server should define a second interface (alias) with a different IP. Packets from this IP address are NAT'd to the alternate interface, and...

Port forwarding stops if load balancing dual WAN enabled

Turned out I forgot to enable ping so that explains that issue. If I unplug the cable modem plugged into the WAN port, I can once again use port forwarding. My suspicion now lies with the connection tracking module that should be remembering which WAN port to send replies to. Perhaps that...

Asus locking down routers to comply with new FCC rules

It helps to visualize what radio actually looks like. A channel is not a single point in the spectrum and one channel can interfere with adjacent ones. Channels 12-14 are reserved in some countries (ie. the US) for other purposes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels CB is...

I get *Reminder: Your system time has not been synchronized with a NTP server.

Could your ISP be blocking the port? Can you get time from an internal PC via NTP?
