How do you install DD-WRT on R7000?

There are over a dozen 2.4Ghz signals that are strong enough to connect to but only 1 weak (-89dbm) 5Ghz signal which probably explains the reason I don't have much trouble with 5Ghz. The WRT1900ac had better range on 5Ghz. I was able to stream video in all rooms, unlike the R7000.

How do you install DD-WRT on R7000?

I've run into a problem. The 2.4 Ghz wifi signal on the wrt1900ac is strong. But at -23dbm, videos load very slowly. Even google play store loads slowly. App downloads are slow. How is this possible? Edit: This seems to be a firmware or hardware issue. I spent an hour with CSR and they said its...

How do you install DD-WRT on R7000?

I very much appreciate the advice of everyone that has posted here. For any router, I expect stock firmware to just work on the most basic level (like holding wifi signals for more than 24 hours at a time without random drops). I don't think thats too much to ask for. If that works then I...

How do you install DD-WRT on R7000?

I don't know how much of a Corvette it is because signal quality is terrible from one end of my 1000 sq foot apartment to the other end. It's about 30 feet from my living room, where wifi signal is worse than the previous linksys series EA4500? (something like that), to the other end, where the...

How do you install DD-WRT on R7000?

I did a factory reset after the firmware install. I'm not a power user. I just wanted stable wifi for multiple devices. I was hoping DD-WRT or Tomato would help but it didn't work out in my case. I already ordered the WRT1900AC and this router is going back shortly. Edit: In case I wasn't...

How do you install DD-WRT on R7000?

Reporting back. I installed Kong's initial .chk then std.bin the latest version updated 8/7/14. Initially things seemed okay. 5 minutes in, the router would reboot every 3 minutes. It was completely unusable. So my conclusion is that netgear firmware has been most stable (esp for wifi) but it...

How do you install DD-WRT on R7000?

There are two .bin files. One is .bin and the other is .md5.bin? What is the difference? And when you say use the netgear firmware to flash back, does it matter which version I use? I know tomato was pretty picky.

How do you install DD-WRT on R7000?

I can't find detailed instructions. I'm confused and I don't want to brick my router. On Kong's website, there are initial .chk files. So I understand that part. But then there are .bin files for the latest firmware. What am I supposed to do with those? I have installed tomato and tomato...

Netgear Nighthawk R7000 5GHz hissing noise

Maybe you can start a poll and determine if its normal or not. I have 5ghz running on 3 devices and it does not making any hissing sounds. I sit right next to my router so I would know if it did.

Problem with 5ghz wifi on r7000

Yeah my iPhone 5 is dual band. It connects to 5ghz using stock WPA2 but not 121 shibby tomato unless encryption is off. I've reached the conclusion that stock firmware is terrible. The wifi drops all the time. I have to reset multiple times a day. Let's say I'm streaming a video in the...

Problem with 5ghz wifi on r7000

Here's my question. If a wireless android devices has wireless N, does that mean it should always be able to connect to a 5ghz wireless network (assuming its mixed mode or N only?) If so, I'll do the reset and see if its any better. I doubt it because my iphone connects fine (but signal isn't...

Problem with 5ghz wifi on r7000

I clicked the "erase NVRAM after upgrade" setting in the tomato interface. I had to reboot once already because I was getting heavy lag spikes. Edit: I mean intermittent and regular lag spikes/disconnections while gaming on my wired lan connection. Edit 2: I noticed that when my wireless...

Problem with 5ghz wifi on r7000

Okay I flashed back to the latest official firmware. Now I can connect with WPA2 on 5ghz for my iphone but my android devices can't connect even though it sees the network. I guess this is a slight improvement but still disappointing. Edit. wifi drops more frequently than tomato but thoroughput...

Problem with 5ghz wifi on r7000

I just got my brand new router today. I flashed to shibby's latest tomato firmwire and fired it up. The problem is, if I turn on any kind of encryption WPA, WPA2, etc., my phones (including a Nexus 5) can't connect to the 5ghz network. But when I turn off all encryption, it connects. What...

Is R7000/AC68U overkill for my setup?

I'm in the market for a new router. I'm still using a wireless G netgear from like 10 years ago. My two criteria (and I'm willing to flash Tomato, dd-wrt or whatever): 1. ability to support as many devices streaming video as possible (this is primary) 2. stability I have no AC capable...
