    I just looked at my mac address list of my devices and out of 25 odd only one starts with D4: - it is my daughter-in- laws Android Huawei Y6 phone (my Y7 is totally different). You haven't got an old one lying around anywhere?

    I think you are wasting your efforts here. Anybody that does build from source would easily be able to fix all that up if they wanted to. You wouldn't just build the source like this just to apply an arbitrary diff file.

    And yes to that - the firmware uses 3rd party kernel modules, so the kernel will always be 'tainted'.
