    It happened again a couple nights ago. Went into the setting, the LED off was set, I did an "APPLY" and rebooted. They were off after the reboot. If it happens again I'll just try the reboot.

    Don't know what your direct VPN issue is but IMO it's definitely time to upgrade that N66 to something fully supported with ongoing updates.

    If you haven't done so, I'd suggest a factory reset and re-configure. If you've done that, I'd suggest contacting ASUS if still under warranty.

    Over the years I've had issues like this after updating firmware that required a factory reset and reconfiguration to fix. It's not unique to ASUS. Give it a try and let us know.

    It depends and there's not enough info here to provide an answer. Would need to know more about your environment, your devices, your expectations, your budget .... IMO there is no one sized fits all "best". I by your signature you've got an AX88. That's a pretty solid router to begin with...

    IMO if you can provide a wired backhaul, AP mode is the only way to go.

    Both Amazon and BestBuy have the AX86S (two cpu version of the AX86U) for $180 which I think is a great price. I'm pretty sure they support the features you're looking for but I'm sure others will comment as well.
