[SOLVED] DNS communication issues, when DNS is on a routed LAN segment (ASUS & Merlin Firmware versions).

Update: I have been in touch with ASUS engineers since this issue. They were quite accommodating and happy to help. Over last few weeks, they sent a couple of new beta versions for me to test. Good news is, their latest Beta, I tested today, has fixed this issue. So, I am anticipating they will...

[SOLVED] DNS communication issues, when DNS is on a routed LAN segment (ASUS & Merlin Firmware versions).

Agreed. I am just not using open vpn. But if it did, I would need to truncate some segments out for sure. Thank you.

[SOLVED] DNS communication issues, when DNS is on a routed LAN segment (ASUS & Merlin Firmware versions).

Yep, you are correct. In the latest version, it does force WAN DNS /32 to be on eth0, regardless of where the static route says it is. If it was just a higher than 1 metric, I could have added a lower metric route to counter this. Looks like it is a "feature". So be it, glad to get the clarity...

[SOLVED] DNS communication issues, when DNS is on a routed LAN segment (ASUS & Merlin Firmware versions).

For all who are confused, home network is on 192.168.1.0/24. This is where I am pinging from. And running all other connections requests.

[SOLVED] DNS communication issues, when DNS is on a routed LAN segment (ASUS & Merlin Firmware versions).

Two things: 1. this used to work just fine with previous versions. 2.Additionally, you can set wan dns to a local ip on ax88u segment and it works just fine. just not on a routed lan segment with this latest version.

[SOLVED] DNS communication issues, when DNS is on a routed LAN segment (ASUS & Merlin Firmware versions).

yes, exactly. It starts to seem like static route no longer is in effect, when you implement this. But I can ping other IP addresses on the segment, so static route stays in effect. Just the ip that gets set as DNS server becomes unreachable. I am former CCNP route switch. So I hope that I am...

[SOLVED] DNS communication issues, when DNS is on a routed LAN segment (ASUS & Merlin Firmware versions).

So, not sure if this a bug or a feature, but here's the challenge: Summary: If PiHole DNS service is sitting on a broadcast domain hosted by another router, you can no longer communicate to it, once you set it as a DNS server on ASUS router. Setup and observations: L3 Topology is as follows...

Gig service on modem but AX11000 says 500Mbs Need Help

We can certainly look into it. Let us know which feature actually helps or makes things worse, and we can go from there.

    Disable IGMP Snooping on AX88u

That did it. The moment I ran the command, IGMP membership queries stopped. I wish this could be built into a small toggle switch in IPTV GUI.

    Disable IGMP Snooping on AX88u

this is what I found for multicast: /tmp/home/root# find / -name *multicast* /sys/devices/virtual/net/spu_us_dummy/statistics/multicast /sys/devices/virtual/net/ip6tnl0/statistics/multicast /sys/devices/virtual/net/bcmswlpbk0/statistics/multicast...

Gig service on modem but AX11000 says 500Mbs Need Help

I don't use TOS tagging on home network, and my QoS experience has been on enterprise equipment only. So, you could be quite right here. Let's see if OP can comment on any advanced features that he may or may not be using.

    Disable IGMP Snooping on AX88u

    Nothing showed up. /sad /tmp/home/root# find / -name multicast_snooping /tmp/home/root#

Gig service on modem but AX11000 says 500Mbs Need Help

DSCP or diffserv only come into picture when there is contention on the link, which in this case there isn't. But there maybe a software bug then. Let's try disabling it then.

    Disable IGMP Snooping on AX88u

Hmm... I logged in with admin rights from root, but it told me to piss off. I wonder if the router is just mad at me at this point.

    Disable IGMP Snooping on AX88u

Sorry, where do I execute it? Right on the SSH? or is there a special "conf t" mode that I have to enable in there? I got this result: /tmp/home/root# echo 0 > /sys/class/net/br0/bridge/multicast_snooping -sh: can't create /sys/class/net/br0/bridge/multicast_snooping: Permission denied
