YEs, it's definitely that malware. Happened to me too and no asus.com websites is a tell-tale sign. It changes the root domain in your router to asus.com in order to prevent the automatic firmware updates from working.
Easy fix - reflash current firmware and the set factory defaults and...
But I'm still confused -- I can't see the USB storage on my AX86U AP unless I I enable both Cloud Disk and Smart Access (PC) on my AX86U Pro router.
I did move my USB stsorage from my router to the AP recently. IS that what router requires Smart Access for the USB storage to show up?
In AICloud, I see both my usb attached storage (as expected) and also my desktop. However, I can not access the desktop (Zeus) no matter what user/password I enter. I presume it's expecting a windows login here, right?
Check you DHCP page in LAN settings. If you see some unknown devices in manual IP and your domain is set to asus.com, then you have this malware affecting quite a few. I had it on my AX86U Pro. Solved by applying latest firmware wand then factory reset.
I don't see much difference. My AX86U Pro router now has plenty of memory available with AIProtection on after moving my USB storage to my AX86U access point. And it is using all available RAM of the 1GB which is what I expect for file caching, etc.
Well I did the steps in other thread which were just reuploading the existinging firmware (formy AX86U Pro) and then factory reset and reconfigure. Seems to have solved it for me, although I will be keeping a close eye on it.
One easy way to see if it's back is that it disables all asus.com...
Wow, I found myself with this exact problem as well. Luckily, doing the same reload of existing firmware and factory reset solved it.
I was wondering why the firmware upgrade checks have been failing for a while now, and this was the reason. The other problem I was chasing that was caused by...
AX86U Pro router on latest available Asus firmware. I looked up the MACs and the first one is VMWare and the second two are Realtek. How would malware get into my router?
I have a AX86U Pro as my router but also a AX86U as a connected access point. I just moved my USB drive to the 86U AP. Shoulda done this from the start. Now the 86U AP can give lots of memory for storage caching and my 86U Pro router can enable AI Protection and still have a 300MB RAM available.
Yes, when I'm using the attached USB drive I expect RAM usage to fill up (like it does) for drive caching. I'll try those commands although I only telnet into router for some reason I don't remember.
OK, now I see AI protection is 75MB or so. But yesterday when I was testing and finding it...
