2.4ghz and 5ghz clients cant communicate with each other

I have my 2.4ghz set to 20mhz bands as that is the only way to deploy 2.4ghz with non-overlapping channels. It hasn’t made a difference for me for this issue.

2.4ghz and 5ghz clients cant communicate with each other

Right that’s my experience. Anything connected to the switch ports, even another switch connected to those ports, continues to work. It’s really just the internal communication between the two bands.

2.4ghz and 5ghz clients cant communicate with each other

I’ve had to settle on using the reboot scheduler in the administration menu and rebooting the router overnight, weekly when i know no one is using it. ASUS wasn’t helpful when i raised this either and it seems they either don’t know how to fix it or don’t care.

2.4ghz and 5ghz clients cant communicate with each other

Took a diff of my show nvram and see that when the wireless stops working the following values are different. This is working config vs failed config: - obd_allow_scan=0 vs not present in nvram - wl1_dpp_status=15 vs wl1_dpp_status=16 - wl_radio=0 vs wl_radio=1 I tried looking at the source...

2.4ghz and 5ghz clients cant communicate with each other

Oh, I also took a packet capture and just basically saw broadcasts for the 2.4ghz client with no response from the router. ARP table on router has both source and destination MAC’s present.

2.4ghz and 5ghz clients cant communicate with each other

Fair enough. To sum it up, I think what I've seen is that this affects the RT-AX86U, mostly pro versions of the router, either on Asus wrt or Asus merlin. I don't know what firmware version it started in. I personally am coming from an RT-AC1900P that did not exhibit this behavior. After a few...

2.4ghz and 5ghz clients cant communicate with each other

Hm, I wonder if it’s the same problem. I can’t disconnect and reconnect or restart a 5ghz client to get the communication working again. Have to reboot the radios or the the whole router to resolve it

2.4ghz and 5ghz clients cant communicate with each other

The tables yes and since router is just running a Linux distro if there are any services that have stopped. If this is due to memory leak or an exception in code, I don’t know that there’s logging we’d have access to to see an error message but that would be interesting to look at too.

2.4ghz and 5ghz clients cant communicate with each other

Has anyone done any packet captures or log review when the issue is present? Have we found how to trigger the bug or force the behavior? I just had to print again and it was broken again so I thought I’d see if we had a breakthrough here. Disappointed to see so many reports and no fixes.

2.4ghz and 5ghz clients cant communicate with each other

Right, this isn’t a radio association issue. Making one SSID and filtering which device can connect to which band is the same as two SSIDs and associating a device to a band. All you’ve done is made it the router’s job to put a device on a band and not managing it per device. I prefer per...

2.4ghz and 5ghz clients cant communicate with each other

Thanks for that. It’s still unclear to me why this would make a difference. I’ll set it up on my LAN and try it anyway.

Speed and connectivity between wireless antenna and internal router on combination devices

Ok thanks that explains it then. 4 lanes of PCIe 3.0 would allow for around 4Gbps from the radios

2.4ghz and 5ghz clients cant communicate with each other

It happens on official firmware and Merlin. Not sure if Merlin works directly with ASUS engineering but a roll back or reboot schedule seems like all we can do for now

Speed and connectivity between wireless antenna and internal router on combination devices

Hi all, Sorry if this has been brought up elsewhere but I haven’t been able to figure out the right search query to find what I’m looking for. I recently purchased gigabit fiber for my home and started evaluating some options for replacing a combo firewall/router/wireless appliance to some...

2.4ghz and 5ghz clients cant communicate with each other

Some devices don’t allow icmp as a part of their software so that unfortunately can be a false positive but thanks for confirmation otherwise
