    potentially unexpected fatal signal 11

Aaaah, OK, that makes sense. Thanks for clarifying.

Well, yeah, I got that bit...creating a virtual network interface is calling a function in the dcd package (written by TrendMicro), and their lack of adequate error handling is causing the issues, right? But I guess what I don't get is why should there is any difference calling this function...

Cheers, @TheLyppardMan . That all looks interesting. I'd prefer something that I don't need to install on each individual PC/Mac/Tablet/Phone (I do have lots!), which is why Diversion or Pi-Hole are attractive solutions. There are obviously quite a few options - more than there are alternatives...

If you are referring to me, then I asked on this thread as it seemed to describe the symptoms I was getting, but the thread fizzled out with a number of speculations and suggestions to avoid the problem, but nothing definitive. I know it was an old thread, hence asking whether there was ever a...

    potentially unexpected fatal signal 11

Well, yes. But then you also lose the protection from malicious web sites that the Trend software performs. Would you really rather disable that than find an alternative to Diversion (such as Pi-Hole), which merely stops adverts being quite so annoying?

    potentially unexpected fatal signal 11

Ah! So it's an interaction between two different router settings. I don't think I'd ever have worked that out. So if it's mostly the pixelserv code that's causing the issues, then using Diversion Lite could potentially be more robust. I'm giving that a go, but it seems I've not set it up...

Did anyone actually get to the bottom of this? My RT-AX86U on 388.2_2 firmware is showing the same seg faults in the logs, and I suspect these are related to the random reboots I've been suffering from. I've done some experimentation, and I'm pretty sure it's not the Trend filter that's...

Logitech Harmony Elite compatibility with ASUS AX routers / Wi-Fi 6

Pretty sure it's Bluetooth. And my hub talks to my RT-AX86U just fine.

    Is my RT-AX86U dying?

This is interesting. As I just mentioned to @jtp10181. I was actually using an old 1TB 2.5" SATA SSD in a USB 3.0 caddy, formatted to ext3. Speed is not a major issue, so I don't really *need* NVMe (and I suspect USB 3.0 would be the bottleneck, anyway). However, as part of the reset, I've...

    Is my RT-AX86U dying?

I can certainly believe that 99% memory usage with no swapfile, could cause unpredictable behaviour when it needs another couple of MB... Since doing the hard reset, it's not sitting at just over 50%, so much more comfortable. I'll keep a close eye on this as I add my desired scripts back again...
  11. TheMegaMan

    Is my RT-AX86U dying?

Yeah, that was my thinking, although I'd not changed/updated the scripts for some time before the problems started...hence deducing it might be deteriorating hardware causing the issues. I'd already removed Diversion, and stat gathering scripts, with no improvement. I've done the hard reset and...

    An alternative to the RT-AX86U

Fair points. I said 'features I need', when I guess I really meant 'features I want'. There seem to be so many routers out there with very similar specs that just seem to differ by the number of ports, etc, that it seemed worthwhile giving my ideal spec, rather than just saying I wanted a new...

    Is my RT-AX86U dying?

My RT-AX86U seems like it might be dying. I'm on 388.2_2 merlin firmware, with a few scripts added. I've had a few problems recently that may or may not be related. I'll jot them down here... - A week or two ago, I saw error entries in the log for 'command failed', seemingly when trying to...

    An alternative to the RT-AX86U

Thanks for taking the time to reply, @Tech Junky . Hmmm. Food for thought. In years gone by, I did have separate AP, router, etc, but these days integrated units seem to rule for domestic products. Homebrew also has a lot of appeal (I do like to fiddle!), but I also want it to 'just work'. I...

    An alternative to the RT-AX86U

My RT-AX86U is possibly on it's way out. It's approaching 2 years old, and seems to have started resetting itself every hour or so. I've had Asus routers in the past - was very pleased with my RT-AC68U until it died (possibly having been running hot for so long), and replaced it with a RT-AC86U...
