Sync Synology share to QNAP share

What do you use to do it on the QNAP? I couldn't get anything to work there, either...

Sync Synology share to QNAP share

Dang, it ain't gonna work. I appreciate the tip, though! Syncthing is great. My QNAP is armv71, and there's no package for that architecture..

Sync Synology share to QNAP share

I have a Synology DS418 and a QNAP TS-431P sitting in the same closet plugged into the same router. My goal is for the QNAP to act as a backup for the files on my Synology, in case the controller board snaps or the power supply melts or something. I have a share "Filez" on both, with the same...

Seamlessly blanketing the house (zero-handoff roaming AC wireless)

How much is $$$? A top goal is to support client devices that are bad at switching with no configuration changes. Some devices are better than others at this, and I'd like the bad ones to behave in spite of themselves. Basically, I'm trying to outfit my sis with a network that "just works" in...

Seamlessly blanketing the house (zero-handoff roaming AC wireless)

I've been tasked with blanketing a house in glorious wifi. Layout might look something like this: cable modem in the basement, wired to a router/WAP on the first floor, which is also wired to a WAP upstairs. The sticking point has commonly been getting client devices to relinquish their hold on...

Fun with WPA/WPA2, multiple WAPs, and iPhones

I have a WAP at each end of an apartment (Asus RT-N66U and Cisco E4200), hard-wired to a pfsense router. Each has 5GHz and 2.4GHz radios . I had them all set to the same SSID and WPA2-Personal password and everything seemed fine until I tried connecting some phones. My iPhone 4 would not...

    Low-power hardware for pfsense router

Heh, the Dell Zino: http://www.anandtech.com/Show/Index/4185?cPage=5&all=False&sort=0&page=11&slug=dell-zino-hd-410-htpc-review These things are dirt cheap and plentiful, but an average 30W draw isn't amazing for a router. That said, when I started my search for new hardware, I thought my...

    Low-power hardware for pfsense router

That's a fair question, and I'm finding it harder to answer than expected. When I got my WNDR3700, I ditched my WRTG Tomato router. The WNDR3700 firmware proved less than stellar (at the time), and at some point I wound up falling into a Cisco E4200. It was taking the DD-WRT folks a while to get...

    Low-power hardware for pfsense router

Those are sweet, but the dual-Ethernet model starts at $400 with no RAM...It'd take me years to recoup the investment, and I lack foresight.

    Low-power hardware for pfsense router

I've done some calcumalations, and it looks like my current router (pfsense running on a Pentium 4 system) will cost me almost $200/yr to run in power. Knowing that, I'd like to replace it with something cheap and efficient. The trickiest requirement is that it must have 2 Ethernet ports...

Simple, fast WAP (or: If E4200 is overkill)

Cisco stuff doesn't get reviewed because they don't provide units to review. Maybe Ubiquiti is the same way. Kind of a bummer all around.

Simple, fast WAP (or: If E4200 is overkill)

Interesting. Here's an ad-hoc review of the Ubiquiti PowerAP N, as well as a link on Amazon. Never have I ever heard of this company.

Simple, fast WAP (or: If E4200 is overkill)

I get it, but "any old router" will probably have shirtty range, throughput, and/or reliability over wireless.

Simple, fast WAP (or: If E4200 is overkill)

Seems like these companies sell 100 wireless routers for every 1 dedicated WAP, so the economies of scale of buying the all-in-one system far outweighs the cost of the additional components you're getting with them. Does that sound about right?

Simple, fast WAP (or: If E4200 is overkill)

I guess my question is, can I get any kind of WAP that is as fast and reliable as an E4200 or WNDR4000 for significantly less money? Judging from the charts, yes, I can get a wireless N router for $50, but they're commonly crap. All of the "good" WAPs have routing/switching hardware attached...
