There is a single core 4708, the BCM47081 https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Broadcom
The 4709 doesn't seem to have a single core variant, at least not listed on the link above.
The unit I have has BL version 1.1.1.2 which corresponds to hardware with a C0 cpurev, whatever that may mean. I am not sure if...
Even the ones with the firmware that doesn't allow manual flashing are 1GHz, but showing single core activity in the firmware. All are C1 hardware, and I believe someone mentioned earlier receiving a C1 68U. I doubt Asus are shipping hardware that carries the same revision number but has...
The AC68 C1 h/w might be a cost effective way to use up lower binned BCM4709-C0/4 that either are not stable at 1.4GHz (require higher voltage) and/or run too hot.
I'm not sure how temperature scales with frequency on these SOCs, but on my unit, even though it's still relatively cold here, my...
The 2 files have an extra variable (compared to other AC68U) "cpurev" that is set to c0 for both. No idea what that is supposed to indicate, maybe nothing :P
I was looking through your github repository, particularly here "asuswrt-merlin/release/src-rt-6.x.4708/cfe/build/broadcom/bcm947xx/compressed/" I noticed the 2 68U files that have "C0" in their name. A plain 68U whichh seems to match exactly the hardware that I got (I checked several of the...
Today my router auto detected an update and popped the nagging notification. Not sure if it was going to update to the newly released 68U firmware or one of the cut-down versions.
So instead I updated from stock 380.1842 to Merlin 380.59
Restored factory defaults just in case, and manually set...

The confusion is due to Amazon blindly copying and pasting the R\U specs. There was no indication if and what features this SKU will be missing. It also wasn't clear whether the price was a limited promotion. In fact they raised the pre-order price above that of the...
RMerlin, thanks for the clarification about CFE versioning. And I think you're right about the AC68A with the cut-down f/w version lacking adaptive QOS. One of the reviewers on Amazon has a screenshot of the UI, instead of the "Adaptive QoS" button on the side menu it shows "Traffic Monitor". So...
It mentions other missing f/w features, like the 3G/4G wireless USB dongle support. It cannot be trusted. Amazon must've copied the U's SKU specs blindly.
EDIT: Did you try Merlin's latest version?
I believe it's software. The one I have h/w c1, which shipped with f/w 1842, seems to have a fully functioning adaptive QOS. But I guess the AC68A wasn't supposed to come with this firmware preloaded, why else would there be a cut down f/w version.
RMerlin, the AC68A that I have came with BL...
