What do people use for DNS at home?

Ok, after further testing, I found that I can assign a "name" to a MAC address and have that be a static IP, however, the hosts still cannot resolve the "name" to the IP. There must be a missing step somewhere.

[Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin 374.43 LTS releases (Archive)

Will this Asuswrt-Merlin work with the RT-AC68P router? If I have issues, how does one roll-back to the official firmware?

What do people use for DNS at home?

I don't have this "Name" field in my DHCP reservation list. Is this "Merlin" you refer to some other firmware other than the ASUS firmware? Where can I find out more about this?

What do people use for DNS at home?

I should clarify. It's not "all" internal, but what I was referring to was that the traffic between most of the nodes is internal. I make use of an RT-AC68P router at home. This handles the traffic for the db/app servers as well as the miners and other household stuff such as my laptop, TV and...

What do people use for DNS at home?

I have a lot of traffic between the different nodes in the house. I have about 15 machines which are all running 24/7, and need to keep host files up to date on all of them because of no DNS. It's all internal traffic, no need for external access at this time. Mostly database and application...

What do people use for DNS at home?

My router works ok, and I can assign MAC addresses to specific IPs, but I still have to enter all the IP addresses on each box manually. How do most users get around this issue? I don't want to remember all the IP's of everything in the house, but my wireless router doesn't offer any DNS...

    Rt-ac68p problems

I have a RT-AC68P router. I can successfully login, but any time I try to change anything it keeps bringing me back to the login page. This implies im not logged in, but I can still navigate the router web pages and see existing sensitive information including passwords, which implies I am...

    Having a problem with RT-AC68P

The router let's me login using the admin account, but when I try to make any changes it takes me directly to the login page again and doesn't save my changes. I tried a factory reset, and it started doing the same issue over again.

    Drive throughput vs network bandwidth

RAID10 has 2 downsides. 1) Much more expensive 2) Faster but not as safe as RAID6. Depending on which 2 drives fail in a RAID10 (specifically both sides of a mirror), you could loose the lun, while with RAID6 you will be ok regardless of which 2 drives fail. Yes, im using the LSI controller, but...

    Drive throughput vs network bandwidth

Im looking to build a 100Tb iscsi nas/san at home using the newer ST8000NM0075 drives. These drives are SAS 7200RPM drives and are 8Tb in size. Im trying to figure an optimal solution which will save money but still be performant. A single 8 drive configuration will be about 50Tb in Raid-5, but...

Why No 10GbE For Home Users?

I see it's been a while since this discussion had any activity. I was looking on eBay (I know some folks don't like that), but at any rate: Intel X540-T2 10G Dual RJ45 Ports for < $150, or less than $75 per port. I believe there is some openswitch software floating around, and I was wondering...

    Top Loading 2.5 inch enclosures?

Does anyone know of any top-loading 2.5 inch rack mount enclosures? Currently, I can only find 24/25 bays in a 2U rackmount. Im looking for a 3-4U rackmount with approx 150-200 2.5 inch bays. This would be about 6-8 rows of 25 drives each, mounted vertically. This is pretty common for the 3.5...

    Disappointed in iSCSI speed

I bought 8 of the Samsung 850 evo 1Tb SSD drives and configured Raid-10 on an HP server. Im using this as an iSCSI server for a database application. When I try to map luns using iSCSI, im getting an average throughput of about 50-60 MB/sec. Each SSD is capable of almost 500 MB/s streaming speed...
