Want to move away from Asus routers, Ubiquiti? advice needed

U7 lite installed, and all up and running. Very impressed overall. Just a few loose ends to tie up, like if you have an IoT SSID, how does that stop them spying on you if they are connected to the same network, just a different SSID? There must be a way to stop that, but I've not found it yet...

Surface mounted cat6 keystone box or similar in the UK recommendations

I bought some of the Euro connectors/sockets to finish up a job, but they are a really awkward design and don’t allow the cable tie to grip onto the outer cable properly (outdoor cat 6 at about 6-7mm and quite stiff). Even the wiring diagram is off, with yellow instead of orange. So, I was...

GT-BE98 Dropping all devices, wired and wireless

I liked it at first, it was the best coverage wifi we've ever had, but it had way too many issues for the price, and having been down that road with Asus support in the past, I wasn't going back there again. I was glad to see the back of it, but I'm glad yours is working out for you 👍

There's quite a high crime rate where we live, so a visual deterrent is better than none, for sure. Always good to be secure, thanks for the info 👍

I haven't heard anything so far, and I'm sat a few feet away from it. I think it's probably preferable to have a fan, especially if you never hear it. I haven't seen anyone do teardown of these kinds of things, I'd be interested to see what's inside.

Indeed. I think you do get that with pretty much anything computer related, it always turns into a 'mine is bigger than yours' contest. Add in social media and that just fuels it. But, if it makes them happy...😂

Pockets may be deep, but there’s not much in them, after discovering this Unifi stuff 🤣

Thanks, I have installed the inner spaces thing and I’ll give it go in the morning. Need to measure up first. 👍

I like the sound of that. That’s a fair point about heat. I would have thought they’d have scaled back the number of pcie lanes used to help with that too, maybe even gone gen 3. Can’t see any info about that, though.

Thanks, No, I don’t think we have spoken about inner space, but I will have a look. I did try the link that you left in the first or second reply to my post, but I couldn’t get it to work for a home setting. I may have been doing it wrong, though 🤪 So the NVR side of things. It is on an nvme ssd...

Thanks, yes that makes sense. Would that still be a thing if all the IoT stuff is on it’s own network? What kind of threats are we talking about from IoT devices? It would just be 2 or maybe 3 cameras max, and they would be wired. 👍

Thanks! The update I did yesterday which said it was the latest one, was 9.0.114. today, the 9.1.120 is showing now, so will do that when everyone has gone to bed. I think I have got my head around the Web UI now, it is much preferable to the Asus set up. They seem to have simplified everything...

Returned mine and gone with a small Ubiquiti set up. You able to return it?

Thanks! After being delivered to the wrong address, I have it all set up and working. As expected, we need at least another one AP upstairs. The setup was fairly straightforward, some parts of it didn't go as expected because of external factors (My internet provider not updating for the new...
