RT68U/ 384.8_2 : radios, openVPN turning themselves off

With some careful bending I was able to correct the contact problem, but unknown if this is a source of my issues at all. CPU temp down to 80C, radios at 50C, without active cooling. Laser shows surface HS temps at around 40C. to john9527: NVRam 51162 / 65536 bytes, but after a recent...

RT68U/ 384.8_2 : radios, openVPN turning themselves off

I've got it apart now so I can't give you an answer on the nvram, but I did have almost every device set as bound IP/MAC in network map. Yes, one pad had ~ 50% contact with the sink. the pcb appears bowed concave in the direction of the chipsets.

RT68U/ 384.8_2 : radios, openVPN turning themselves off

I will take the unit apart and check the sinks. Any clues from the logs? RMerlin mentioned AiMesh, which I don't have settings for AFAIK and haven't enabled.

RT68U/ 384.8_2 : radios, openVPN turning themselves off

This problem has recurred, with failures becoming much more frequent, despite default resets and an update to 384.10_2 (with reset). Normally, with a change of seasons, I'd suspect an overheating issue, and cpu temp is currently reading 82C, despite cpu utilization in the single digits. I'm...

RT68U/ 384.8_2 : radios, openVPN turning themselves off

Update: issue corrected with ~1 wk of uptime. Fixed by either new 384.9, factory default reset, or setting radio channel control to manual or a combination of the above. Thanks for the assistance.

[Release] Asuswrt-Merlin 384.9 is now available

Upgraded RT-ac68u (a real one!) with no problems, then reset to default settings, hopefully fixing the radio problem I've mentioned in another thread. Seeing the post above, I set the channels manually as well.

RT68U/ 384.8_2 : radios, openVPN turning themselves off

The radios will turn off overnight (wireless...professional....enable radio....no) without my intervention. WiFi works fine otherwise; great range and throughput.

RT68U/ 384.8_2 : radios, openVPN turning themselves off

Another piece of possibly relevant information: I have my older AC66U (newest stock Asus firmware 3.0.0.4.382) connected to my LAN in AP mode, but as a wired switch with its radios turned off.

RT68U/ 384.8_2 : radios, openVPN turning themselves off

It arrived with 374, and I upgraded after I got it.

I haven't purposely enabled that and can't find the setting for it. Is there another way to manually disable it? I recently did a reset (administration....factory default....restore) but can attempt it again.

Thank you, I will try that. Are there any red flags in my log?

RT68U/ 384.8_2 : radios, openVPN turning themselves off

Thank you for responding. The oldest Merlin available at SF is 378.55. I should revert to this, and then update to 384.8? The logs for the last time the radios turned off: Jan 29 03:57:04 rc_service: watchdog 272:notify_rc stop_amas_wlcconnect Jan 29 03:57:04 rc_service: watchdog...

RT68U/ 384.8_2 : radios, openVPN turning themselves off

I reset to (merlin) default settings and spent the time reconfiguring, but got another episode of the radios turning off overnight. I turned the VPN off to eliminate a variable. Any suggestions?

RT68U/ 384.8_2 : radios, openVPN turning themselves off

The VPN issue is my error. I did not have 'automatic start at boot time' checked, so it did not restart at the last reboot.
