Long story short, I was tired and totally missed the fact that I downloaded merlin's firmware for an AX68U router and not an AX86U router. Once it was flashed, I couldn't access the mesh or reset the device! I thought I was stuck and bricked the mesh router. Here's how I fixed it as I'm sure...

Try restoring the DSL-AX82U features - https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/32k1vyn9?p=19 and using gnuton's 386.5_2 version
