I finally discovered the ultimate culprit in my bandwidth dilemma...a bad USB 3.0 card. Yesterday, not only did my speed drop to a crawl, it finally just tanked and the pc reported no internet connection at all. I looked at the USB network...

I have a few tablets connected to the 2.4 band. They do not receive the same speed as the 5 band, but they are also N. 2.4 seems to have a consistent 24up/3 down speed.

Thanks...I debate it might be the linksys adapter. I ejected it and connected it to a different USB3 port. Speed is back. I will see if it stays after work. :(
Also correction. I am using firmware 583 not 586 sorry about that.

I bit the bullet and upgraded the home network. I installed a USB3 card in the main pc and added a linksys wumc6300 ac usb adapter, put a linksys wumc710 media bride in the media room (got it for only $49 on sale) and replaced an aging linksys e3000 router with the asus rt-ac68r...

thanks for the quick reply and the link to the new article. It really does seem that the newer firmware has jumped up the ac68 in the speed game.
Out of curiousity, why do you recommend to format the drive as ext4 instead of ntfs?
