    Beta [Fork] Asuswrt-Merlin for RT-AX58U_V2

This thread was about AX-58U v2 The thread you linked to, presumably to support your "low-quality experience" opinion is about AX-56U Many people come here to learn and understand. Please don't mislead them by conflating hard facts, unintentionally or intentionally. RMerlin already spoke for...

Asus AiMesh Node (RP-AX56) - Keeps disconnecting

So, while this mess happened, one of things I had noticed is that the RP-AX56 you find on the unit is usually 3.0.0.4.386_42862-xyz - while the latest firmware you have available on Asus' website for RP-AX56 is slightly older at 3.0.0.4.386_42860-xyz. So before I knew what the real problem was...

AiMesh disconnecting after a few minutes

i see. For me, the reversion to 388.2 must have coincidentally exactly timed with Asus’ file changes, so it looked to me like the fw reversion fixed the issue. Thanks Merlin, for chiming in

AiMesh disconnecting after a few minutes

Merlin 388.2 also running fine - its just that 388.2_2 has inherited Asus’ bug and thus the problem i never had to ssh into rp-ax56 or change any file or even factory reset the rt-ax58u - just revert to 388.2 on the rt-ax58u, factory reset and re-add the rp-ax56 as aimesh node - to have...

AiMesh disconnecting after a few minutes

Reverting to 388.2 for my RT-AX58U has led to 1 day, 7 hour rock solid stability for me. Did you factory reset and re-add the RP-AX56 it to the AX-58u as a mesh node after the 388.2 reversion ?

Asus AiMesh Node (RP-AX56) - Keeps disconnecting

You can take a look at this thread - looks like a fw regression bug from Asus. If so, reverting to older fw on main router should help https://www.snbforums.com/threads/aimesh-disconnecting-after-a-few-minutes.85019/

AiMesh disconnecting after a few minutes

I had the same exact problem, with a AX-58U as main router and RP-AX56 as its sole mesh node. When it happened, the issue looked so bad that I suspected the RP-AX56 hardware was the root cause. Multiple factory resets, reboots and re-connections as AIMesh node did not help. It was working fine...

    RT-AX58U - Firmware 388.2_0 fails to install

It does seem to me, based on @RMerlin 's comment in that linked thred - the reasons behind him thinking of dropping support for AX58U are very nebulous - (1) People confusing V1 of that model with V2 - which is a problem of "some people" who are not detail oriented, at least not initially, and...

Why does WireGuard slow down the entire WAN-LAN speed?

Great to hear. Yes, you'd noted the Asus implementation of Wireguard earlier, which now their changelog shows "improvement", so I will wait for when you'll roll it in. Thanks.

Why does WireGuard slow down the entire WAN-LAN speed?

It would be great if RMerlin can confirm if this Wireguard implementation can be rolled into Merlin builds in the future. It'd make RMerlin's Wireguard implementation reflect this critical Wireguard improvement (I'm already using Wireguard on RMerlin)

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 is now available for all supported Wifi 6 models

Thanks @RMerlin. I am one happy camper that has been waiting patiently for Wireguard, for my specific needs. To start with, I don't pay for what I don't need. I have a 300 Mbps WAN/ISP cable connection (in US, ISPs suck, as is widely known, but that's plenty for my needs). I have a Docsis 3.0...

    [Dev] Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 development

VPN server vs. VPN client are two different things. "Fast" from the perspective of a server servicing multiple clients (i.e. multiple phones, tablets, laptops) from the router without each having VPN clients running, vs. a single client desktop's singular speed with its own client - are not...

    [Dev] Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 development

You are completely missing the point. When Wireguard runs on a desktop, its a VPN client, no matter how fast. When Wireguard runs in a router, it becomes virtual-server servicing multiple clients on that router/home network, using VPN Director. Different value propositions entirely.

    [Dev] Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 development

This is great news @jakey - why I have been eagerly waiting for Merlin's finishing this build (can't risk an alpha and trying right now, as I'm working from home, etc). My expectation was the even the low-powered AX58U will be significantly faster on Wireguard than OpenVPN, as AX58U is tricore...

    [Dev] Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 development

Did you happen to compare the Wireguard vs. OpenVPN client's speed ceiling differences, while keeping everything else (WAN, ISP, VPN provider) constant ? I'm really looking forward to switching to WG with the hope that the speed ceiling will be higher especially for the AX-58U (that's a little...
