Between the whole house surge suppressor and the individual ones on the equipment, not sure what else could be done? Other equipment on the same surge suppressor were unaffected - only the router, switch, and lan port of my device were fried.

Take a look at Domain VPN Routing (linked below). I can't speak to if the router traffic would be re-directed, but can confirm that when I am outside the house and connect back via Wireguard Server, my specified traffic routes through the VPN I chose in Domain VPN Routing...

So for OP - your real question seems to be is if you trust Taiwanese firmware or not. Have to imagine they are not helping China collect any information in any way.

Isn't ASUS a Taiwanese company? Is the firmware developed in China or Taiwan? I suspect the latter, but not sure at all.

You don't have to open a port to auth to app.plex.tv. Opening ports for Plex is used just for remote streaming I suspect your issue is related to your Docker Container and getting your PMS to see your traffic as local.
