Thanks for the input, I'm away but I'll check these when I get home. I know I have IGMP Snooping enabled, and I suspect that I can return to using 5G now that I've disabled airtime fairness but I wanted to ensure the issue was resolved before making any other changes.
I know this is an old thread but it seems relevant to my issue. I was experiencing the same conditions as the OP and disabling airtime fairness has made a huge improvement for me. I'm on Merlin's 384.5 AC88U.
I am only running 2.4ghz right now, with 5ghz disabled. I'll add 5ghz to the mix once...
A fix should arrive today from Google for the network flooding:

Thanks for the input! I've tried stock firmware and factory resets and the problem still exists. My phone is on the latest 8.1. At one point I disabled the 5Ghz and had a minimal 2.4Ghz setup and the problem continued even on stock FW. I have an AC88U, but I even had set my AC66U as an access...
So glad to hear from someone else with the same phone! Thank you sir. I suppose my next step would be a factory reset of the phone and then even a device replacement.
What I meant about sleep was:
I can consistently kill the network by waking the phone from sleep.
If I keep the screen on and...
And that lasted all of 12 hours before it started happening again. This router really hates this phone. I'm traveling for a month and will consider a factory reset or device replacement when I return.
Pixel 2 XL
Wake from sleep
Destroy the lan for 1-20 pings
Fine as long as it stays awake and...
January patches for Google devices are out, and updating my Pixel 2 XL to the latest patch seems to have resolved the issue killing my AC88U when waking from sleep, at least for now. I ended up having to use my old phone through Xmas so that the network would be functional for guests.
And FML. I did a factory reset and the minimal setup and the problem remained so I flashed stock ASUS FW_RT_AC88U_300438218991 and the problem still existed! What I did not do was reboot the phone between flashes. Now that I'm on stock FW I rebooted the phone and the problem went away but I...
Thank you for your suggestions on the settings, I will certainly check them out once I get to the point where I feel I can enable 5Ghz again. I'm in a rural area so interference is minimal. As for the temps it's just the CPU, wireless temps are around 48. I haven't seen the CPU above 86 and this...
I'm experiencing a very strange issue with my RT-AC88U on Merlin's 382.1_2 with my new Pixel 2 XL. The device has been factory reset after upgrading and no backup restored other than static clients and port forwards entered via ssh. It seems that whenever I would pick my phone up (and it...
I'm using it with some success, but I'm having issues with my old 2.4ghz Chromecast devices. They keep getting kicked off the network and I am wondering if the default settings are trying to kick them to 5ghz even though they are not capable.
I also tried adding an RT-AC66U in repeater mode...
I would like to share a few things I experienced with my RT-AC66U that might be related to this topic.
I experienced WAN loss, but it was very seldom. It always occurred after a power outage or device reboot. When it did happen, my whole network would go down and I would be unable to connect...
It appears the app has been updated, and is currently working on my Nexus 6P. I have actually searched the play store many times in the past for an app like this, thanks for sharing!
Just registered to say thanks! I had no issues upgrading my AC66U from ASUS 376 to Asuswrt-Merlin 378.56_2! I used the NVRAM tool provided by John9527 and that relieved the pain of wiping. So far everything seems to be working great, although I haven't tested all features yet. All documentation...
