I tried this a couple days ago to update my AXE16000 mesh from 3004.388.8.4 to 3006.102.4. The mesh is running in AP mode btw.
Right after upgrading, although my guest networks were present in the configuration, none of the guest clients could connect to the network. Thinking it could be a...
AXE16000 master, two AXE11000 nodes and one RP-AX58 as aimesh nodes. Upgraded the master to beta2 and lost the nodes. They were just showing offline. Went back to 388.2_2 and they showed up again. I see others have had success so will try upgrading the nodes first.
Makes sense with specific applications where uninterrupted line of sight between transmitters and devices is possible (e.g. they mention VR) but for replacement in a walled environment? In the outdoors? In spaces with multiple obstructions? They talk about transmitters in light fixtures... how...
Testing beta 2. AXE16000 as OpenVPN server now passes traffic. Extremely slow though and can only open external sites, not internal. Don't care enough to fine tune but it is an improvement from beta 1.
Most exciting though is that my 6Ghz clients now use the 6E radio. I was only able to connect...
Is the Smart Connect Rule page supposed to be somewhat hidden? I can get to it via the link in the Wireless:General page but it doesn't show it's tab under Network Tools
Tested a bit more the Dual WAN functionality. Turned primary WAN off, secondary stayed in Hot Standby instead of taking over as active. Then, turned primary WAN back on and router crashed and rebooted. Pretty unstable feature but at least for a real world scenario (if the primary WAN disappears...
Hadn't noticed before since I just started using DualWAN but on AXE16000, every time the router reboots, primary WAN fails to get DHCP assignment (using 10G_1) while secondary (2.5G port) negotiates fine. I have to bounce Eth10G_1 and then it will get the DHCP from the modem (both WAN ports get...
Running 388.2_alpha2-g099892a1cf on AXE16000. Can confirm issue with 2.4ghz and 6ghz radio is gone (prev, devices connecting to the 2.4ghz radio would have no exit to internet). Had already seen it work in stock image, glad to see the gpl merge brought the fix to Merlin.
OpenVPN to connect...
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I wasn't sure the wireless portion was part of the proprietary blob. I typically avoid the stock fw because of its instability but gave 22237 a try and it was a nice surprise to see the 2.4 clients working fine. Hopefully merlinwrt will eventually catch up...
This is also my experience with the AXE16000. The guest 1 2.4 GHz clients connect but the router refuses to forward traffic to the internet. I am actually wary to try the Asus stock because it is horribly unstable. Seems I will be stuck in 386.8
I reset the AXE16000 to factory and started config from scratch. All it has is a different LAN subnet than the default and one guest network (2.4) and still see the same behavior of no internet for guest clients, so it doesn't seem to be related to any other configuration.
This very basic...
Tried it in my AXE16000 to see if the guest network issue with 388.1 had gone away and no. My 2.4Ghz guest network clients connect to the radio but they are not allowed through to the internet. Had to roll back to 386.8 to remediate. Is this something that needs to be addressed directly with Asus?
I just tried again. Did a factory reset of the AXE16000 and disconnected the AiMesh nodes. Just by itself, after factory reset and reloading the cfg file, the AXE16000 still refuses to pass any internet traffic on my 2.4ghz guest network. I proceeded to downgrade to 386.8 and after reboot...
