    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

Wow, am I reading this right? With a Wireguard VPN running on the router to cover your entire network, you still get over 700Mbps down? Currently on a 1Gb symmetrical connection, running a Wireguard full network VPN on my AX88U non-pro takes me from the 1Gb down to around ~250-270Mbps. If...

    GT-BE98 WIFI 7

Apologies if I missed the post, but is there any indication of Wireguard VPN performance on this router yet? I know it's relatively early and this isn't widely available, but the few reviews I've found haven't included much if any VPN testing at all unfortunately.

Has there been any testing of the performance of running a Wireguard VPN on this yet?

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 3004.388.4 is now available

Something about this completely hosed my Wireguard VPN connection even after reverting to the prior beta. No matter what I do I cannot get my desktop to actually run through the Wireguard VPN on the router again.

The Pro version of that looks awesome, pretty much covers everything I've been looking for in a new router. Hopefully we don't have to wait too much longer for it.

Is this thing ever going to be released?

Praying that something like this finally has a CPU that is worth upgrading from the AX88U for.

    VPN Killswitch

It is not. It is strictly a computer setup. Don't want to get too off topic in here, but essentially, to become compromised utilizing Whonix, you would require cascading failures or specific nation state targeting. It's not the most modern and pretty setup, and it is a VM so it is good if your...

    VPN Killswitch

Cool. You're definitely ahead of the curve. And I do agree, the killswitch feature is super important to me, albeit maybe not to the stakes you're relying on it. I would recommend incorporating TOR, VMs, and other such technology into your workflow if possible. Check out the Whonix forums and...

    VPN Killswitch

If this is the case and is indeed as serious and necessary as you say, you need to be using a multilayer approach to this. Perhaps you already are. What's your compartmentalization look like? What does your network altogether look like? Are you using a VPN on your system, or only on the...

    [Dev] Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 development

ahh shucks. encryption giveth, and encryption taketh away really hoping that wireguard is implemented in a more cohesive way soon. it'd be a luxury for me, and i'd love to utilize it, but i don't feel it's quite at the point where i want to totally roll my own pfsense linux box setup

    [Dev] Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 development

So that means it should have even worse OpenVPN performance than the AX88U. God I wish there was a way to run Merlin on a leftover linux box.

    It's teaser-time. Because why not.

Correct. And you are probably correct. 2.0 isn't enough to bother with, and while it's a luxury and something I'm not desperately needing, it would be nice to get a bit more out of my internet connection. That's a good point also about Wireguard. I haven't seen much about the progress of that...

Crossing my fingers that one of these has a CPU that can push past the current ~240mb OpenVPN limitation.

Release Asuswrt-Merlin 386.6 is now available for select models

Thanks for the VPN numbers. Really really tempted now. AX88 seems to max out around 200ish for me on a 1gb symmetrical line, and I haven't had the willpower to move to PFsense, so the GT might be a fair stop gap. Much to consider....
