Synology Update Cycle for NAS units

The 1019+ is due next month I believe. It's a 5 bay model though with exactly the same specs as the 918+ I'm in the same boat as you having just had my DS-415+ fail on me due to the intel c2000 series bug, whilst being just outside of the warranty period. (Synology pulled a right dirty on the...

    ASUS RT-AC88U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.380.7266

Why no 7328 revision for us AC-88U users yet? or did this release have them fixes in it?

pfSense/Sophos vs ASUSWRT/RMerlin - Is there any reason to change?

My 'braswell' mini-pc has been working great with Sophos so far. Must say its far more impressive than what I initially thought allowing FULL control over my network and devices connecting to it. Once it was all configured I've had no need to return back to it other than to disable content...

pfSense/Sophos vs ASUSWRT/RMerlin - Is there any reason to change?

Just be warey of them nic's on that board bud - ensure linux drivers are available. Intel ones are usually the ones to go for, with realtek next in line I'd say (but even them can be dodgy I read somewhere!)

pfSense/Sophos vs ASUSWRT/RMerlin - Is there any reason to change?

Something like one of these bud: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MEGSMRZ/?tag=snbforums-20 J1900 cpu should be more than capable and 4 x intel nic's are great. Low power useage and tiny to boot ;)

pfSense/Sophos vs ASUSWRT/RMerlin - Is there any reason to change?

I'll take stability over 'looks' any day bud. I believe Sophos are still developing the UTM to XG migration tool and havn't yet released it- its all still too new to jump into. They also state clearly that they will continue to develop and update the UTM version - I'd much rather have a stable...

pfSense/Sophos vs ASUSWRT/RMerlin - Is there any reason to change?

Look at the sophos forums and read about all the users who have migrated from utm to XG. A lot of complaints of either missing functionality or wierd gui based issues. I'd advise to stay away from it for now tbh. Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk

pfSense/Sophos vs ASUSWRT/RMerlin - Is there any reason to change?

Sorry to hijack your thread bud lol! :) Just looking at your requirements that you've mentioned above I personally feel sophos will be more suited to you than Pfsense. PFsense requires additional modules to be installed for even half of what sophos is capable of and even then they can be a bit...

pfSense/Sophos vs ASUSWRT/RMerlin - Is there any reason to change?

Pen testers will obviously exploit vulnerabilities bud - and no I didn't get into specifics just asked which is the 'more secure' of the two. Was actually quite surprised he recommended Sophos above pfsense. Anyways: the end result!!! - Don't think I'll ever go back to consumer grade...

pfSense/Sophos vs ASUSWRT/RMerlin - Is there any reason to change?

Working in IT I know a fair few penetration testers (aka hax0rs!) Some of which 'claim' they can get past a pfsense firewall in 5 minutes. Sophos take them 20 minutes hence I would say Sophos is the more secure as it uses a closed platform no? The one feature of Sophos (and the main point of...

pfSense/Sophos vs ASUSWRT/RMerlin - Is there any reason to change?

Took a while but I got there in the end! :) Instead of trying to use the routers DHCP and additional firewalls etc - I just set it to AP mode. Having had time to familiarise with the Sophos GUI I reformatted and came up with a plan. Reinstall Sophos but this time using it as a DHCP server...

pfSense/Sophos vs ASUSWRT/RMerlin - Is there any reason to change?

errrr mah gawd!!! - this is hard work lol! So me new NUC turned up tuther day - nice bit of kit Intel N3150 1.6Ghz x 4, 4Gb DDR3, 60Gb SSD - sits at 50% RAM useage and never gets to 10% cpu load running Sophos with all stuff turned on. Problem is I think I'm going to get stuck here and its not...

    ASUS RT-AC88U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.380.3941

Will give that a try when I next get chance to hard reset - tbh though it should just work and not require it to be done in a particular order - so still a bug ;)

    ASUS RT-AC88U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.380.3941

Done that dude - I don't keep changing the IP addresses - I just do it the once and then funnily enough the AIProtection alerts stop. Just to confirm - I hard reset, setup basic config - AIProtection alert emails work fine. Once I change the IP range to what I want it to be - it stops working.
