New Around Here
Hi there,

I run a pop-up silent disco called fyidisco. It works by using a media server, connected via ethernet to a wi-fi router to publish audio data which iPhones can then pick up via a local wi-fi network.

This audio data is only 64kbits per sec, and is distributed in 10 second packets (via http live streaming) - so each iPhone connected takes around 640 kbits every 10 seconds, not a huge amount of 54mbs, even with 20-40 connected devices. Still, the last time I ran it there were hiccups and loss of signal.

It's currently works with a battery powered TP-Link 901ND, but I'm wondering if there would be a better choice for me.

Here's what I'd need from a router:

  • 12v power standard supply (the system is powered by a 12v battery)
  • capable of handling multiple, but low bandwidth simultaneous connections from iPhones (50-100)
  • 1 x ethernet socket (to connect the media server)

I know that's a weird request, but if anyone knows of a router that will suit a function like this I'd be really grateful. And if you live in London you're invited to come to one of our events (http://www.fyidisco.com)!

If you've got any questions for me just let me know, thanks.
