New Around Here
Hello all

I need some assistance. I have 2 routers and they are connected through power-line. I want one of them to have custom DNS so any device that connects through it goes through the DNS

Additionally, I want devices connected to either routers be able to be on the same network as to make sharing files and media easy.

Can this be achieved? And yes than please tell me how.

Both routers are netgear but one is flashed with ddwrt.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you Community

Possible? Yes.

Easy to do/good idea? Well, that depends on your comfort level.

Can you upload a drawing of how you currently have it set up and how you want it set up?

I have created a rough drawing of what I want.

Basically Im outside USA and want to use services like netflix. I use unblock.us to achieve this.

I need to know:
- what settings I have to do in my netgear ddwrt which will allow me to be on the same network and at the same time allow devices that are connected to Netgear Ddwrt to connect to USA SERVICES.
- right now I can achieve this but they are not on the same network and I cannot share files between my other devices.

Any help is appreciated

What is the outside interface IP address on the DD-WRT router? This is the power line interface.

If it's an internal IP, you can turn the DD-WRT out of NAT mode and into routed mode, then on the primary modem, add a route for the other network (the one behind the DD-WRT router) with the DD-WRT's power line interface as the next hop.

The power line does not have an IP address. It just allows an Ethernet connection. The IP address is with the netgear ddwrt. Right now I have given the ddwrt ip as 192.168.5.1 while the nighthawk has 192.168.1.1. This way it works fine but then there is no sharing between the routers as they are on different networks. I want them to be on the same network

I'm starting to think this is just too much effort. Can someone just tell me atleast in theory how I can achieve this or of this can be done at all.

Yes, it can be done. I said how in the previous message.

A wise man once told me: Never work harder than the people you're trying to help. If you can't post a couple of screenshots so I can give you a list of things to do, then maybe someone else will help you.

192.168.5.1 and 192.168.1.1. Your mask should be 255.255.0.0 if you want them to be in the same subnet.

You should block dhcp request from the wan port of your ddwrt router and let dhcp server running on your ddwrt router.

That way, all device asking for ip will get one from router's dhcp server connected with. If you dnsmask it working with your ddwrt, all device connected to it will use your custom dns

Wouldnt it be easier just to enter the custom dns manually into the devices that you want to use unblock.us for?

Crazy you make a good point now that I think about it, it would be simpler
