2019 Wireless Router or Wireless System Wi-Fi 6 Recommendations
If you've purchased a router in the last few years and you're still happy with it, there's no reason to replace it right now, especially if you don't plan to massively add the new Wi-Fi 6 compatible products.
If you’re using a 10-year-old router that doesn't receive security updates, it's a good idea to start shopping around.
That doesn't mean you must purchase a Wi-Fi 6 router, though. Why not purchase a Wi-Fi 5 router instead?
If you still have a Wi-Fi 4 router, but your smartphone, TV, and laptop all support Wi-Fi 5, get a Wi-Fi 5 router instead, as it may last for five years or more.
If you don't plan to add on to a wireless network with 100's of smart home devices, go ahead and take the savings. If you plan to add 60 to 200 smart home devices, buy WiFi 6 now!
Wi-Fi Designations
Wi-Fi 6: 802.11ax (2019), also known as High-Efficiency Wireless (HEW)
Wi-Fi 5: 802.11ac (2014)
Wi-Fi 4: 802.11n (2009)
