I just realized there was a Synology thread. I am trying to decide between a 207+ vs the 209.

I want a balance between price/performance.

207+ $304.99
209 $309.74

Where the 209+ is $499.74, way outside my price range.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Do you say 209 because its the newer model. I believe the 207+ is a better performer from what I can tell from the stats.

Any word when the 209 review will be posted?

How do you draw that conclusion? Looks like the 209 (using the 109 data) is clearly faster.

The 209 uses the new Marvell "Kirkwood" processor while the 207+ uses the old Marvell "Orion". I have tested multiple products using the Kirkwood and it's clearly faster than Orion.

And yes, the 209 is newer. The 207+ has been discontinued.

No plans at this time to review the 209. Note that the 209+ is an older product and does not provide higher performance than the 209.

I'm trying to decide between the 209 models and it's is very confusing. Why does the 209+ cost about $100 more if the performance is not better than the 209?

Is the 209+ discontinued? I don't see it in the comparison chart on Synology's web site.

Can we extrapolate the results from your "Ebony and Ivory: Synology DS109 and DS109+ Reviewed" to the 209 and 209+? Meaning, does the 109 and 209 (and 109+ and 209+) have the same CPU, clock speed, bus width, etc?

Thanks in advance.

See the post above yours. The 209+ is an older product that has been / will be discontinued.

You can compare processors here. You can only extrapolate performance among products that use the same processor and memory size.

So, comparing the current 209 line...

It's interesting to see that the performance charts here do not include the 209j for anything but transfer speed:
http://www.synology.com/enu/products/DS209/perf.php

Is it possible that even though the 209j has a slower processor, the floating point will help things like photo converting? The 209 vs 209+ appears to have such a big difference - would it be possible the 209j isn't half bad compared to the 209 but it's not shown for the risk of hurting the sales of the 209?

Also, does anyone know when the 3 respective 209 models were introduced? Would it be possible that the 209 will have a version II soon? I'm no expert in these Marvell processors, but that 16bit memory bus is sticking out as though it's ancient stuff...
