Alpha 2 seems like a keeper for sure. Thanks @RMerlin !!

Anyone did a dirty flash on their router?

Does this come with a new wifi driver on the 68u?
The one on the 384.6 is "wl0: May 31 2018 13:48:59 version 6.37.14.126 (r561982)"
Here’s what showing under tools - sysinfo here:

wl0: Jul 5 2018 11:53:42 version 6.37.14.126 (r561982)

NVRAM usage: 62610 / 65536 bytes.

Not a big deal? Did clean setup on Alpha 1, now it's Alpha 2.

RT-AC87U/coming from Merlin 384.5, clean install of 384.7 alpha 2: No synchronization with timeserver. Whatever I do, it stays with may 2018. Noticed the same problem with latest original firmware by Asus

Maybe try an IP address rather than an URL?
It shouldn’t matter, but.........

In my case, two shiney reboots actually did the job quite well too :D

Alpha 2 seems rock solid, at least to me. I couldn't find a reason to revert if I wanted to :)
Dumb Question, once the official 384.7 is released and youre already on alpha2, is it required to flash the official one?

Yes. The alpha firmware is only for testing purposes.

Alpha builds are very early work-in-progress. A lot of changes are still under work before the 384.7 final release (and even before the first beta release).
