Ac-86u port forwarding question

Bd2000

New Around Here
Hi, so i have recently bought an asus ac86u to use with merlin and it was all pretty straight forward as far as setting up was concerned. How ever when i have tried to forward wan ports to my qnap they remain closed and my qnap isnt accessable. Ive noticed alot of threads, mainly for the 68u concerning port forwarding and was wondering if it was still an issue? I've tried various ways iptables etc to get it working, but nothing helps. I have noticed that alote is mentioned about disabling hardware acceleration but i cant find a way to do that so id be greatful for any help before i decide to go back to my trusty draytek.

Cheers

NAT Acceleration is under LAN - Switch Control. But TBH I don't think there's ever been a problem with port forwarding on the router. When people have had problems it's usually either a problem with their ISP or a misconfiguration on their part.

Ive had a check under switch control but there is only jumbo frames and spanning tree. It could possibly be but i have checked several diffrent guides to make sure and fall all intents its should be working. Also the same config works without issue on the draytek 2860 so i doubt its an isp issue

Sorry I forgot you have an 86U, I was thinking you had a 68U. The hardware acceleration is called something different on that model. If you're running stock Asus firmware it's probably something that you can't turn off.

What firmware are you running? Have you installed the latest version, it might be a bug that's been fixed?

Hi i have tried both the newest official and and merlin 384.8.2. its very strange and i'm at a complete loss as to why its behaving in this way. Regardless of what you try ports remain closed, even putting the qnap in the dmz or turning the firewall off completely still blocks the ports

My knowledge on this is very limited, that's why I come here to SNB to learn. However I do have an AC86U and a Qnap TS431 that I use basically for storage. I have Merlins 384.8.2 firmware and mostly the default settings on the router. Have not done anything with NAT acceleration or port forwarding. Just replaced the AC68U with the AC86U and reconnected the cables as they were. I did have to change the IP address of the Qnap and WDMyCould to 192.168.50.xxx to get everything on the same subnet. But that's all I did and I can see the Qnap in file explorer in windows 10. I can read and write to it with no problem. I can log into it with the same username and password. If you can't see the Qnap you can download Qfinder from the Qnat website. Other than that I'm afraid that's about the extent of my knowledge.

Hi, thanks for your reply. ive no problems accessing the qnap internally on my lan via the web portal or qnap apps but the 86u will not allow me to access the qnap externally of my home network. i'm using it for storage and also as a webserver.

OK, may not have cocompletely understood your problem. I have never tried to connect to my network externally. I'm retired so I really have no need to. Haven't the foggiest as to how to do that. Sorry for not being more help.
