AC56/AC68 electrical shutown of uplink port

Hello everyone!

I'm looking into buying an AC56/AC68 router and looking forward to using RMerlin's firmware. However I have a problem with my provider's ethernet WAN link. From time to time the provider's cheap switch gets in a weird state and my WAN activity port led keeps blinking furiously (as if there is a lot of traffic), while tcpdump shows nothing. The way to fix this is to unplug the RJ45 plug, count to 3 and plug it back in.
I would like to know if the routers above offer a port shutdown feature that would sever the electrical connection, so that I can automate a recovery solution for my problem.

Thanks!

Try inserting a cheap switch between the router and the ISP's modem to see if it helps.

Otherwise, I would have the ISP fix their buggy CPE.

Are you on DSL service. I have currently AC-68U and it does same thing. I simply unplug power and restart modem

My ISP provides FTTB and terminates their fiber connection in a regular ethernet switch. Unfortunately I can't prove that their device has a problem because their call center procedure tells me to plug the WAN cable directly in a PC, and after that it always works.

I doubt a cheap switch in-between would work, since I'm currently using a WRT54GL, and you can't get cheaper than that...
@Hawk: if you do a software reboot of the modem or the router without pulling the power cord does it start working? In my case a reboot doesn't solve it and I still have to pull the jack from the port. Next time it happens I will try to pull power plug without jack... maybe I can use a smart power socket or something...
