AC68R VPN Question

Hello, first time poster, and I really have enjoyed this forum! I use me AC68 all the time, and knock on wood, it has worked flawlessly for me. I have recently set up for VPN and it went pretty smoothly, but at some coffee shops, while I can still log into my network, I cannot connect to my home internet. Again, I can reach my network, and even router config, but just hangs trying to go to the net. Running windows 7, but my iPhone on Verizon never let's me go to the net. Not sure if this is an Asus setup problem on my part, Windows 7 setup problem, or just that some local access points firewall me out. Anybody have any suggestions? I am not using open VPN. Sorry I if I have not provided enough info, kind of a nube. Again, some coffee shops actually do work. Thanks!
