AC68U Slow Speed

Daviddps

New Around Here
Hi

The wired download speed on my new AC68U is slow. My old Netgear router has a download speed of 3Mb/s (fibre optic hasn't reached me yet!). This new AC68u router initially was Ok when I set it up a few weeks ago but after a few weeks has slowed to 1Mb/s (wired). I've updated firmware, cleared nvram and done a factory reset and the speed has increased to 1.5Mb/s but still half the Netgear performance (I've tested with the old Netgear router to check it is not an ISP issue).

Has anybody any suggestions for settings which could be affecting the performance?

Thanks in anticipation.

David

First, choose a new ssid for the bands you use or go to each client device and 'forget' and then re-associate the router again.

If the issue continue, change your settings for each band to Short Preamble and use a specific channel. In addition, for the 2.4GHz band, use only channels 1, 6 or 11 (and 13 if legal in your country) with 20MHz channel width (I would test each channel, rebooting each time you make a change, until you find one that works with the least latency and the highest throughput). Do the same for the 5GHz band but in this case, you should test each channel you have available while the channel width here is set to 40MHz (since 5GHz channels don't overlap at that channel width).

If the above still doesn't fix your issue;

Turn off (physically unplug from the power plug) all your network equipment including your clients, modem and switches in addition to your router for at least 10 minutes or better yet, 30 minutes or more (an hour is even better).

Now, power up your modem first and wait 5 minutes for it to fully boot up. Power on the router and wait an additional 5 minutes. Finally, power on any switches you may have and finally, your clients.

Hopefully one or all of the first steps above will resolve your issues.

Thanks. Wi-Fi hasn't been a problem. I have switched off the router and changed the filter on the phone line and that seems to have helped.
