AC86U ignores routes from provider

SHARK55555

New Around Here
Hey,

recently i swapped my old zyxel router to the brand new AC86U and it's not working with my provider.

The setup is:
- ethernet cable from provider connected to the WAN port
- WAN type - Automatic IP

Router successfuly establishes connection with the upstream, receives IP and DNS servers. But it does not apply routes being sent by provider.
Provider sends around 20 routes which on my old zyxel looked like:
Dhcp::Client: adding route 172.16.0.10/255.255.255.255/172.28.149.1.
Dhcp::Client: adding route 172.16.0.11/255.255.255.255/172.28.149.1.
etc..

There are no such messages in log on asus router and routing table is empty.

Tried both latest stock and merlin firmwares.

Any help?

Those are private IP addresses. The Asus is designed to only use a single WAN IP address so you won't see the same messages in the log.

You say it's established the WAN connection successfully so what exactly is the problem you are experiencing? Are there any error messages in the router's syslog?

As i said - asus is not adding static routes which provider sends to me via DHCP. Routing table is empty. I have no access to many provider resources. Current solution is to add them manually but this is not acceptable because routes change from time to time.

Can you describe what sort of internet service you are connecting to. I've never seen a home internet service push multiple routes to the client. You would normally expect to see the WAN interface acquire a single IP address, netmask and default gateway.

My ISP provides ethernet cable to their internal network with some free resources (like chat, ftp, etc.). I just plug it in WAN port.
To access internet i have to connect to the providers vpn (inside this network) via L2TP
To access free resources i need correct routes.

In this setup you get 2 addresses:
- one for local network (172.x.x.x)
- another for vpn connection (some real one)

Asus ignores routes that provider sends (via DHCP i guess). Previous router automatically applies them after receiving IP address.

To reduce amount of further questions:
- you don't need to connect to the vpn to get routes
- yes, i'm 100% sure that no additional setup is required (like custom MAC) to get inside providers network, you can use ANY router you want

Check the IPTV tab, there's an option there to determine how to handle routes pushed by the ISP.
